Chongqing- Over the past year, the Standing Committee of Chongqing Municipal People’s Congress respected the principal position of deputies to the National People’s Congress. It supported and guaranteed the performance of their duties according to the law, thus enabling them to play an active role. Government sources said, since the 2nd session of the 5th Chongqing Municipal People’s Congress, 17 motions and 1,242 suggestions put forward by the deputies have been completed.

The year 2019 also saw the continuously improved quality of handling motions and suggestions by deputies. In order to improve the quality of handling suggestions, the Standing Committee of Chongqing Municipal People’s Congress arranged specialized training to the personnel of 81 handling departments and units, carried out special inspection on handling suggestions, and comprehensively implemented the system of “two evaluations” for motions and recommendations by deputies, promoting the shift of handling suggestions from reply to implementation. In this respect, handling units implemented 338 among their 449 commitments. Notably, several hot and challenging issues were considered by relevant departments and aroused strong public concern that was adequately resolved.

During the 2nd session of the 13th National People’s Congress, deputies to Chongqing Municipal People’s Congress put forward a total of five motions and 178 suggestions. Among them, the following suggestions received positive responses from relevant national ministries and commissions, including the construction of the New International Land-Sea Trade Corridor, the implementation of special funds for the follow-up planning of the Three Gorges, and the accelerated development of the new channel of the Three Gorge Project.
