COVID-19 Update: Last Medical Assistance Team Leaves Hubei

Xinhua reported that the last medical assistance team started leaving Hubei Province Wednesday as the COVID-19 epidemic in the hard-hit province has been subdued. The medical team consisting of over 180 medical workers from the Peking Union Medical College Hospital arrived in the provincial capital of Wuhan on January 26. Among the total, 179 medics left Wuhan Wednesday, and six will continue to stay there to assist local medical personnel in the treatment of patients.

There were 1,844,863 confirmed cases (71,779 new) globally, and 117,021 people (5,369 new) have lost their lives by 10:00 CET April 14, according to the daily COVID-19 situation report released by the World Health Organization (WHO). According to the report, no new country/territory/area reported cases of COVID-19 in the past 24 hours.

The Chinese mainland reported 46 newly confirmed cases of COVID-19 Tuesday, according to the National Health Commission (NHC) April 15. And 36 of them were imported cases, bringing the total number of its kind to 1,500. Also on Tuesday, 54 new asymptomatic COVID-19 cases were reported on the mainland, while 57 were confirmed of being infected with the virus and 32 were discharged from medical observation, according to the NHC. A total of 1,023 asymptomatic-infected patients were still under medical observation. The overall confirmed cases on the mainland had reached 82,295 by the end of Tuesday, including 1,137 patients who were still being treated, altogether 77,816 patients who had been discharged after recovery, and 3,342 people who died of the disease.

By Tuesday, altogether 1,012 confirmed cases including four deaths had been reported in the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (SAR), 45 confirmed cases in the Macao SAR, and 393 in Taiwan including six deaths. A total of 434 patients in Hong Kong, fifteen in Macao and 124 in Taiwan had been discharged from hospitals after recovery.
