Japan and South Korea Trade in Chongqing: Innovation and Cooperation

The stable work plan has shared the major strategic opportunities brought by the deep adjustment of the globalization pattern, the major strategic layout of regional development, the construction of major overseas channels, and the development of the new economy and new formats for the development of foreign investment in Chongqing.

The Japan and Korea Economic and Trade Promotion Agency greatly admires the prevention and control measures and effects adopted by China and deeply appreciates the work and efforts of the Chongqing Municipal Government, which helped Japanese and South Korean enterprises to resume production.

"Despite the current severe economic environment, many Japanese companies in Chongqing still have great expectations for Chongqing and the Chinese market. I hope that Chongqing can open the market to a greater extent, promote cooperation between Japanese companies and local companies. Encourage the Japanese enterprises to participate in Chongqing's industrial upgrading and urban construction", said the representative from Japanese organization, he also stated that Chongqing is an important point connecting ASEAN countries and European countries, and he is willing to jointly support the industrial transformation and upgrading of Japanese-funded enterprises in Chongqing, enhance the level of internationalization, and deepen the collaboration.

The representative from the Korean agency suggested that it is currently working on organizing online negotiations and marketing matching activities between Chongqing and South Korean companies. In the future, more excellent Korean companies in machinery parts, biotechnology, FMCG, ICT, and others will be introduced to Chongqing. They are willing to strengthen international trade and investment cooperation opportunities between the two sides.

As of the end of February 2020, Japan and South Korea had established a total of 280 and 268 foreign-invested enterprises, respectively in Chongqing, with a total of 1.8 billion U.S. dollars and 4.1 billion U.S. dollars in the actual use of foreign capital. The enterprises include Isuzu, Kawasaki, FANUC, Hyundai Motor, and SK Hynix, Hankook Tire, Posco, LG Chemistry, Woori Bank, and many other well-known enterprises are running a business in Chongqing.
