Chongqing- On the morning of April 20th, 2020, the Hong Kong listed Sunac China Holdings Ltd held the groundbreaking ceremony for the Chongqing A-ONE skyscraper complex. When the project is completed in seven years' time, it will feature the world's 12th tallest skyscraper, and the tallest building in Chongqing, with a total of 103 floors reaching a height of 470 meters, and befit the stature of Chongqing as a world-class international metropolis. 

The Chongqing A-ONE project was designed over a period of three years by a team of internationally renowned architects, designers, and engineers, including the Apple logo designer Rob Janoff, engineers Fu Guoyong and Ding Jiemin, and designers Mathew Carlisle, Darrell Long, John. L. Wong and Ju Bin.

Located on the final site yet undeveloped in Jiangbei CBD, the complex of four skyscrapers will offer 71,000 square meters of world-class conference facilities, office space, commerce centers, five-star hotels, viewing decks, and residential property.

In addition to the tallest structure, the remaining three skyscrapers of the complex will reach heights of 350, 300 and 250 meters respectively.

The chief designer Mr. Ren Lizhi is a native of Chongqing based in Shanghai. He has strived to create a series of unique qualities that will distinguish the skyscrapers from others worldwide. The complex will across the Jiangbeizui peninsula near the confluence point of the Jialing and Yangtze rivers, which all combine to form the A shape that features in the project name.

Despite the challenges of building near waterways and existing subway lines, the geographical location of Chongqing away from earthquake zones and beyond the reach of typhoons, allowed the developer to create an outer structure that eliminates the need for central columns, so that both interior design and aesthetic appearance may complement each other to the fullest degree.

When the Sunac A-ONE project is complete, the Jiangbei CBD will make Chongqing the regional center for economic activity and finance, while the centerpiece skyscraper will become an internationally recognized symbol of the city's development and prosperity.

High-level representatives of local government and Sunac were in attendance, who each took to the podium before they cut a giant ribbon to officially launch the construction stage of the project.
