Following the end of months of the rain season, sunny and hot weather starts to take hold in Chongqing. On August 2, Chongqing Meteorological Service issued another orange alert for high temperatures. This has been the fourth citywide orange alert for high temperatures issued by it in the week. To escape the unbearable heat of at least 37°C, many citizens have left the city proper for the outskirts at weekends to get some coolness. Among others, scenic mountain spots are a popular choice.

For example, Siyuanping Scenic Area in Wulong District has drawn many citizens for camping, cooling off, or stargazing. Unlike the sweltering city proper, which is only over 200 meters above the sea level on average, Siyuanping boasts an altitude of 1,600 meters and is pleasantly cool and refreshing. As shown on the thermometer, the temperature here is only about 28°C in the daytime, and even cooler at night — less than 20°C — so cool that you have to put on a thick coat.

According to the Service's forecasts, the weather will remain sunny and hot throughout the week, and the maximum temperature may hit 40°C on August 5.
