By XINYI LI|Aug 06,2020

It is about 7:00 in the morning, August 4, but the temperature is already 30°C. Here is a tip — Do get well prepared for a heatwave! To beat the heat and stay cool, Chongqing citizens have tried really hard, for example, playing mahjong in water, not to mention air conditioners, electric fan, shady clearing, and swimming pool. As playing mahjong in water is sweeping Chongqing as a new way to get cool in summer, the water park in Meixin Wine Town, Linshi Town, Fuling District, Chongqing has attracted more and more visitors. Well, playing mahjong in water is indeed an excellent way to cool off.

Ahead of the water park said that playing mahjong in water is rolled out mainly to meet the needs of visitors for coolness and offer more fun for them. He then added, "As one of our traditions, playing mahjong in water is launched in summer. We hope our visitors get relaxed while staying cool outdoors, and we absolutely do not encourage gambling."

To create the "snowy-winter" atmosphere and go together with the "bubble carnival", the water park has created artificial snow above and around "Mahjong Pool", so that visitors can have fun with mahjong while enjoying pleasant coolness.

Since sunny and hot weather starts to grip Chongqing on August 1, Meixin Wine Town has seen its average daily visits up to about 3,000. Visitors can buy a water park ticket at the door for 40 yuan per person, or participate in online group booking for 30 yuan per person.

Notably, the water park will throw a flash-sale activity on all online shopping platforms for an attractive ticket price of 19.9 yuan per person, but one account can only book two tickets.

Many parents have also brought their kids here to enjoy the coolness. So, its newly launched "Kids' Water Village" experience program is as popular as its regular programs such as a double-course spiral slide, and gun barrel slide. In the "Kids' Water Village", children can play water pistols, seesaws, and more with their parents.

Following the end of months of the rain season, sunny and hot weather starts to take hold in Chongqing. On August 2, Chongqing Meteorological Service issued another orange alert for high temperatures. This has been the fourth citywide orange alert for high temperatures issued by it in the week. To escape the unbearable heat of at least 37°C, many citizens have left the city proper for the outskirts at weekends to get some coolness. Among others, scenic mountain spots are a popular choice.

For example, Siyuanping Scenic Area in Wulong District has drawn many citizens for camping, cooling off, or stargazing. Unlike the sweltering city proper, which is only over 200 meters above the sea level on average, Siyuanping boasts an altitude of 1,600 meters and is pleasantly cool and refreshing. As shown on the thermometer, the temperature here is only about 28°C in the daytime, and even cooler at night — less than 20°C — so cool that you have to put on a thick coat.
