Chongqing - Ethiopian Consul General in Chongqing applauded the "tremendous achievements" made by the local government in navigating through the COVID-19 pandemic and the flooding during a closed-door meeting of foreign diplomats invited to watch the TV live of the Chongqing Two Sessions opening ceremony.

"Since last year, Chongqing has achieved tremendously under the guidance of the Party and the government, despite the catastrophes of COVID-19 and the flooding," said Anteneh Tariku Feleke, consul general of the Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia in Chongqing, who also attended last year’s Chongqing Two Sessions.

"I congratulate Chongqing for managing through these unfortunate events, for we've seen that Chongqing has successfully controlled the pandemic and the flooding, and promptly started the resumption of work and production after COVID-19... and it was fantastic."

As the only African consulate in southwest China, the Consulate General of the Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia in Chongqing has received a lot of support from the municipal government, which has, in turn, increased the people-to-people friendship and augmented the commercial exchanges on both sides, according to Mr. Feleke.

He also mentioned that a lot of the programs scheduled last year to celebrate the 50 years' anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and Ethiopia had been canceled because of the pandemic. However, the Ethiopian Consulate General in Chongqing plans to continue the celebration this year, so there's going to be a lot of exciting things to look forward to after the Chongqing Two Sessions.
