According to the Chongqing Economic and Information Technology Commission, the overall automobile production of Chongqing in 2020 reached 1.58 million units, up 13% year on year, nearly one percentage point higher than the country's total in 2019. The above-scale auto industry achieved 367.2 billion yuan (about 56.8 billion U.S. dollars) of output value, up 12%.

Notably, in the first ten months last year, Chongqing's auto industry achieved a profit of 10.1 billion yuan, a considerable increase of 3645%. In the first 11 months last year, the growth rate of output and added value of Chongqing’s auto industry was 16 and 3.9 percentage points higher than that of the country's total, respectively. The overall results are very encouraging.

Medium and high-end models such as Chang'an UNI-T are hot sellers.

Introduced by an official of Chongqing Economic and Information Technology Commission, Chongqing's auto industry's highlights in 2020 were reflected in its quick strategic layout and strong technical strengths and products, which propelled all auto brands to come out on top in the market competition.

"The strong technical strengths and products rely on the improved auto ecosystem," said an official of Chongqing Economic and Information Technology Commission. The "supply and demand information matching platform for the auto industry chain under the Chengdu-Chongqing Economic Circle" was jointly built by Sichuan and Chongqing's economic and information technologies commission. After its official operation last year, 20 auto and parts enterprises in both places were successfully connected, achieving an additional purchase amount of nearly 800 million yuan.

The industry structure has been upgraded to boost the added value. Chongqing vehicles' price has increased to 104,000 yuan/unit, an increase of 8,000 yuan each over last year. Medium and high-end models such as UNI-T and Ford Edge are hot sellers.

After years of development, Chongqing has accumulated obvious advantages in many sectors of the auto industry. According to an official of Chongqing Economic and Information Technology Commission, its industrial characteristics are becoming more prominent.

This year, Chongqing will develop its auto industry by remaining focus on new energy and intelligent technologies. It will prioritize battery electric vehicles and plug-in hybrid electric vehicles, greatly develop fuel cell vehicles, and encourage hybrid electric vehicles. It will also focus on supporting auto enterprises to develop medium and high-end new energy vehicles with long-range, short charging time, and high safety performance, pursuing the domestic advanced product quality and technology.
