Chongqing- On April 14, Dazu District held a conference to initiate household waste sorting in the district. District Mayor Li Bubin addressed the conference. He emphasized that relevant parties should work together to promote comprehensive garbage sorting, in a move to improve the district's ecological civilization construction and continuously add "green momentum" to high-quality economic and social development.

Attendees included Huang Ning, Grade II Inspector of Chongqing Urban Management Bureau, Chen Tingjian, Liao Wenli, Wei Zhongwu, Wu Zongfa, and other municipal leaders in Chongqing. Deputy District Mayor Lei Ke presided over the conference. Attendees watched the promotional video on household waste sorting.  Heads with Dazu District Urban Management Bureau, Dazu District Commission of Housing and Urban-Rural Development, Tangxiang Sub-district, and Shuanglu Sub-district delivered speeches.

The conference released the Plan of Dazu District to Promote Household Waste Sorting, clarifying regulations on sorting, collection, transportation, and disposal of household waste. It called on stringent implementation of the country's standards, classifying household waste into four categories: recyclable, kitchen, hazardous, and other waste. According to the Plan, Dazu District will realize garbage sorting by three steps — promotion and initiating, role model development, and concentrated advancement. The district decides to take one year from 2021 to pilot household waste sorting in all public institutions, communities with property management, and sound communities without property management. Gradually, it will involve all six sub-districts in this movement, complete the task assigned by Chongqing one year ahead of schedule, and accumulate effective and replicable experience with little investment that can be promoted to other places.

Li stressed that departments at the district level and sub-districts under their administration should perform their duties and implement corresponding plans. They need to finish goals following the schedule, center on the five keys of reducing garbage at the source, sorting garbage throughout the process, building facilities, developing role models, and promoting and initiating, and steadily push forward the progress of the project. Departments, towns and sub-districts, and leaders are required to shoulder their responsibilities. Party members and officials have to serve as role models; the public should be the major contributors; instructors, volunteers, and "waste bin chiefs" need to play their leading roles; adolescents and children should encourage their family to participate in this action. As a result, citizens will consciously sort garbage. Meanwhile, Dazu District is expected to build a long-term investment mechanism in this sector and strictly carry out "monthly evaluation", "monthly ranking", and "monthly reporting". No unit or individual will be allowed to hinder the realization of garbage sorting.
