Chongqing- Another demonstration project of the China-Singapore (Chongqing) Connectivity Initiative (CCI) was officially launched, where the agreement on Co-construction of China-Singapore (Chongqing) International Aviation Logistics Industry Demonstration Zone was signed on August 26.

"Dual hubs" of Chongqing and Singapore

The newly signed agreement signifies that China and Singapore have actively explored the aviation construction of "dual hubs" of Chongqing and Singapore and pushed for significant progress.

According to the agreement, the eight co-construction units will integrate resources such as the Airport International Trade Logistics Park, the Muer Aviation Logistics Park, the Aviation Logistics Area of the China-Singapore Aviation Industrial Park, and the Chongqing Airport Aviation Logistics Park to jointly create the China-Singapore (Chongqing) International Aviation Logistics Industry Demonstration Zone.

The demonstration zone will be built into an international aviation logistics hub and port highland based in the west of China, connecting the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN), and radiating the world.

According to Sun Xiyong, member of the party group and deputy director of the China-Singapore (Chongqing) Demonstration Project Management Bureau, the demonstration zone will strengthen the aviation hub's status for airlines between airlines Chongqing and Singapore.

Sun emphasized this to consolidate further the basis for cooperation between the two sides in aviation bases, route networks, and airport economy and improve air connectivity between Western China and ASEAN regions.

An international airport logistics center

The planned area of the demonstration zone, composed of two major functional areas, including the south and the north, is 11.85 square kilometers. 

The southern area focuses on the aviation logistics core agglomeration area, airport bonded service area, logistics distribution area, while the northern side focuses on the airport comprehensive service area and the airport multimodal transport area. The positioning of each area is different, where each has its own focus.

The construction of the demonstration zone will highlight the characteristics of aviation logistics services and connect railways, highways, waterways, and other logistics channels under the support of international and domestic trunk and branch aviation logistics networks.

The zone will also build an international airport logistics center that integrates multimodal transport, collection and distribution, cargo and mail express, and bonded logistics.

Integrating the CCI and the China (Chongqing) Pilot Free Trade Zone (FTZ) policies, relying on “bonded + aviation ports,” and focusing on innovative development oriented by big data intelligence, the zone aims to transform from "purely cargo aggregation" to "logistics operation management," and promote the development of "international logistics" with "international trade."
