"Focusing on creating a strategic strong point for the new development pattern, Chongqing will rev up the construction of downtown area built on rails, accelerate the construction of an integrated urban road network, and make its two rivers and four banks more beautiful. It aims to further promote the organic renewal of the city, and comprehensively improve the level of urban development and demonstrate the unique charm of a land with natural beauty and a city with cultural appeal," said Chang Bin, secretary of the Party Leadership Group and director of the Chongqing Municipal Commission of Housing and Urban-Rural Development.

Yang Wei, a fellow of the Academy of Social Sciences (UK) and president of the Royal Town Planning Institute, delivered a speech via video link, saying, "A beautiful living environment is the eternal pursuit of humankind. What our planners follow is for the sustainable development of humankind, creating a system where people, society, and nature can coexist harmoniously." "We can regard the territorial space as an ecological organism. Like the human body, which is composed of main and collateral channels in the human body, bones, and muscles, our cities, towns, and villages are all organs, and we should live in harmony with nature," she added.

The forum chair Zhou Xuhong, a member of the Chinese Academy of Engineering and a foreign fellow of the Engineering Academy of Japan, said, "The modernization of urban governance means a long-term and systematic project, which requires close cooperation in many aspects. It is worth noting that cutting-edge technologies such as big data, cloud computing, blockchain, and artificial intelligence can provide more shortcuts for urban governance."

The fourth edition of the forum continued to emphasize the theme of internationalization. Meanwhile, participants discussed strengthening international cooperation in the design and consultancy industry under the Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement.

The Chongqing Sustainable Landscape-City Development Center was unveiled at the opening ceremony, and so was the China-Singapore (Chongqing) International Engineering Consultants Alliance.

Sub-forums included Innovations of Landscape-City Design under the New Development Philosophy, Paths to Ecological and Sustainable Architecture in Landscape-Cities, Advanced Technologies for Urban Infrastructure, Green and Smart Construction of Urban Infrastructure, and RCEP- the First Design and Consultation Industry Summit Roundtable.
