Vladimir, located 190 kilometers northeast of Moscow, is the capital of Russia's Vladimir Region. It has three districts, with an area of 1,246 square kilometers and a population of about 340,000.

Vladimir is a city older than Moscow. In 990, Grand Prince of Kiev Vladimir the Great built a city here, which was named after him. In 1157, the city became the capital of the Principality of Vladimir-Suzdal. In the 14th century, it became the administrative, cultural, and religious center in the northeastern part of Russia, and after the 15th century, the capital was relocated to Moscow. Due to the city's long history and picturesque scenery, it has become a well-known tourist destination. The city is also one of the industrial centers of Russia, with a focal point to develop machine manufacturing (mainly tractors, electric motors, precision machine tools, automatic instruments, radio equipment, and machine tools) and the glass industry. In addition, the meat, dairy, animal husbandry and pig breeding industries here are rather developed.

Yuzhong District and Vladimir City were twinned in September 2004.
