Chongqing - The afternoon of January 12, 2019, saw the opening of Chongqing Contemporary Youth Sculpture Exhibition—Scenery at Corner. 

This exhibition kicked off in Essence Contemporary Art Museum, located on Nanbin Road. In total, it has over 30 brilliant works from 35 young sculptors in Chongqing. It has also offered the public an opportunity to enjoy recent achievements of the city’s outstanding young sculpture artists.

However, contemporary sculpture, with richer connotation, is significantly different from the traditional kind. Therefore, the exhibition uses diversified concepts and forms, including concrete sculpture, cross-media sculpture, and utensil sculpture. Thus, visitors will avail themselves of this opportunity to refresh their understanding of the art. 

Jiao Xingtao, the curator, thinks that social development, idea upgrades, and scientific advancement have introduced diverse and rich changes to sculpture creation. Also, it is bringing a profound impact on China’s sculpture education and future direction.  

Based on this idea, the exhibition is inclusive and experimental. It welcomes traditional sculpture and cross-media installation artworks at the same time. Besides, it integrates concrete and abstract, ideas and transcendence, truth and fiction. Additionally, the exhibition also demonstrates open and inclusive understanding and practice of contemporary sculpture.
