On November 18, a calligraphy and seal engraving exhibition entitled “yi yi dai shui” (literally a narrow strip of water) took place at the M-ART Gallery to showcase the personal works of the well-known Japanese calligrapher Mr. Toyota Shuji. The exhibition will last until the 25th of this month.

Mr. Komatsu Michihiko, Consul General of the Japanese Consulate General in Chongqing, Mr. Wang Hao, Director of the International Department of Chongqing Municipal Commission of Cultural and Tourism Development, Mr. Lin Taihong, Vice President of Chongqing Japan Club, and the guests from China Xiling Seal Engraver’s Society, Wu Changshuo Memorial Hall and others attended the opening ceremony of the exhibition, supporting together for “ A Narrow Strip of Water” — Calligraphy and Seal Engraving Exhibition of Toyota Shuji.

Embracing a deep understanding and feelings for Chinese traditional culture and art, Toyota Shuji has made remarkable achievements in the research, creation and education of calligraphy art. At the art salon of calligraphy and seal engraving, Mr. Toyota Shuji explained the calligraphy culture and gave lessons to the children on site, patiently and meticulously offering instructions in calligraphy and engraving art.

Japanese calligrapher Toyota Shuji is teaching Chinese children calligraphy at his personal exhibition in Chongqing on November 18.

In order to promote the exchange of folk art between China and Japan and to carry forward the Chinese traditional calligraphy and seal carving culture, in September last year, Mr. Toyota Shuji held a personal works exhibition of calligraphy and seal engraving entitled “A Narrow Strip of Water” at the Art Museum of Xiling Seal Engraver’s Society in Hangzhou. This works exhibition in Chongqing is a stop of his China itinerant exhibition.
