Mountains in the South Hot Springs Park
Mountains here feature distinctive karst landforms. Jianwen Hill is the highest peak, with an altitude of 508 m. Other famous mountains include Heshang Mountain, Xiannvdong Rear Mountain, and Lieshimu Mountain. Hiking trails are built following the shapes of the mountains to the top, providing a good place for exercise and outing.
Huaxi River flows across the South Hot Springs Park to Lijiatuo to join the Yangtze River. Visitors can take a boat to enjoy breathtaking landscapes along the river.
Mountains standing around the scenic area enjoy dozens of trees and shrubs, including pine trees, cypresses, camphor trees, golden rain trees, and bamboos. Additionally, there are various fruit trees, which flowers blossoming in springs and autumns will turn the scenic area into an appealing place.
South Hot Springs Park enjoys a history of over four centuries. Daily water yield reaches 13,000 m3 at 39℃-42℃. It attracted many celebrities, including Chiang Kai-shek and Song Meiling during the Chinese People’s War of Resistance against Japanese Aggression, as well as Zhu De and Guo Moruo after the founding of the People’s Republic of China.
Karst caves in the South Hot Springs Park are said to be the remains of ancient underground rivers. Famed ones are Xiannv Cave, Tianmen Cave, Jinku Cave, Zongji Cave, and Biji Cave, which were the exclusive air-raid shelter of Chiang Kai-shek.
