Introduction

Chongqing zoo is located in Yangjiaping, Jiulongpo District, west of Chongqing's main city. 8 km away from the city center, altitude 240-305.8 meters. Chongqing zoo was founded in 1953 and officially opened to the public in 1955. More than 4000 animals of 230 species are exhibited all year round. It receives nearly 2 million Chinese and foreign tourists every year, among which 100,000 are foreign visitors every year. Chongqing zoo is one of the largest urban zoos in China.

History

Chongqing zoo was founded in 1953, and it was officially opened to the public on January 24, 1955, displaying 11 kinds of animals, including 60 animals. After Mao Zedong visited and gave instructions in 1958, it began to expand and improve. In October 1960, it was renamed "Chongqing zoo". By 1966, it had built a medium-sized zoo of initial scale.

The goldfish house, famous in China, was completed in 1962. It covers an area of 1.94 hectares, with a construction area of 977 square meters and a water surface of 3,000 square meters. It was an early municipal key construction project, and its scale and exhibition mode set a precedent for integrating functions, sightseeing, and landscaping in the building of the animal stadium.

The panda house is next to the goldfish house on the left. It is another key construction project, which was redesigned and completed in 1989 on the basis of the panda cave built-in 1960. It covers an area of 1.1 hectares with a construction area of 2,300 square meters. Visitors can enjoy the panda's lovely appearance in the open air or in exhibition halls or pavilions, regardless of climate.

After the third plenary session of the 11th central committee of the communist party of China (CPC) in 1979, according to the reform requirements and its own characteristics, Chongqing zoo exhibited animals outside the city and carried out cultural and recreational activities, and its operating income increased greatly. Tourists bought tickets to enter the park, which reached the highest number of 2.371 million in the history of more than 50 years.

In 1985, Chongqing zoo combined with the actual situation, the welfare of the staff was greatly improved. The landscape and facilities of gardens have changed obviously, and good economic, environmental and social benefits have been obtained. In the same year, the Chongqing municipal party committee determined that Chongqing zoo is a county-level unit.

Since 1997, Chongqing zoo has developed rapidly with the development of Chongqing municipality. It is gradually stepping into the country's first-class zoo ranks.
