The Ciqikou Museum in downtown Chongqing, China, opened on January 7, 2019, after 10 months of construction. It is originally the Third Silk Factory of Ciqikou during the War of Resistance against Japan. This museum generates from the old office buildings through renovation and reinforcement.
The museum stands in Wenchang Palace, Jinbi Community, Ciqikou Street, Shapingba District. The Wenchang Palace sits along the river in Ciqikou, which is available for overlooking the river.
The museum covers an area of 700 square meters and an exhibition area of more than 500 square meters. It used to be the office building of the Third Silk Factory of Ciqikou during the War of Resistance. It later worked as the dormitory of the factory employees. After the demolition, it became the current museum through renovating and reinforcing the old houses.
The museum aims to “Conserve History in Relics and Enrich People in Spiritual Wealth”. Centered on 5,000-year humanistic accumulation in Shapingba District (formerly known as Shaci District), it will display the profound Shaci Culture. This culture was born during the War of Resistance when local cultural workers in Shapingba and Ciqikou changed residence. The museum will also show the major contributions made in Shapingba District at significantly historical turns in 5,000-year-long Chinese civilization.
