Eling Park, sitting at the highest place on Yuzhong Peninsula, is the first private garden in Chongqing. It faces west, with mountains standing behind, the Yangtze River and the Jialing River flowing below and magnificent and beautiful natural landscapes are clearly presented ahead. The Park enjoys many historical buildings, including the former Australian legation.
The first diplomatic organ of Australia in China ran between 1941 and 1946. The building still stays complete and sound, with luxuriant foliage covering the yard.
A plaque, given by the Australian Embassy in China and unveiled by the Australian government on September 15, 2006, welcomes visitors at the entrance. Bob Hawke, former Prime Minister of Australia, and his wife, as well as several Australian Ambassadors to China, have visited there.
