The Southeast Asian Fresh Food Pavilion in Chongqing International Exhibition and Trading Center now offers various fruits and over 200 kinds of “hot” products. Specifically, they include Yakult Fudge, Thailand Dried Durian, Vietnam Super White Coffee and Malaysia KK King Caramel Treats.

“Various products here are 20% cheaper than those in Chongqing’s markets”, said the principal of the pavilion.

However, all this benefited from the opening of the Chongqing-Vietnam freight train.

According to the statistics from Yuxinou (Chongqing) Logistics Co., Ltd., the Chongqing-Vietnam freight train started operation in March 2018. And it has operated 55 shifts in 9 months, including 6 departures and 49 returns.

The Chongqing-Vietnam freight train is a southward extension of China Railway Express to Europe from Chongqing. Based on rail-rail intermodal transportation, it will go directly to Vietnam and then the inland center of the Indochina Peninsula. In the long run, it will lead to Thailand (Bangkok), Laos and Singapore through the Trans-Asian Railway (TAR). Therefore, it will realize the in-depth integration with the China-Indochina Peninsula Economic Corridor (CICPEC).

The company has gained close cooperation with Vietnam Railways. Therefore, it has achieved “one-stop” connection of the whole supply chain through the “Europe-Chongqing-Southeast Asia” Railway.

The Chongqing-Vietnam freight train will take goods from Chongqing to ASEAN countries like Singapore via Guangxi Beibu Gulf. It saves about 10 days compared with the traditional route via the eastern region.

As the operator of China Railway Express (Chongqing), Yuxinou has now cooperated with Vietnam Railways. Moreover, the two sides have established the whole supply chain of the “Europe-Chongqing-Southeast Asia” Railway. The China Railway Express (Chongqing) can deliver the goods from Europe to Chongqing, and then to Japan and South Korea. Similarly, they can also be sent to countries and regions in Southeast Asia by railway, waterway, highway, airway, etc.

With the opening of the China-Laos Railway in 2021, Yuxinou plans to launch the Chongqing-Yunnan-Vientiane international railway freight train. It aims to provide another logistics channel for Chongqing’s international trade. Furthermore, that makes the trade between Chongqing and the Indochina Peninsula more convenient and facilitates the construction of the southbound corridor.
