Chongqing- Southwest China’s Chongqing Municipality commences garbage sorting in a comprehensive way this year, according to a press conference on August 7, 2019. By 2022, Chongqing will basically complete the municipal waste sorting system.

Spokesperson Zhang Shuyu, deputy director of the Chongqing Municipal Urban Management Bureau, said that the General Office of the Chongqing Municipal People’s Government issued the Implementation Opinions on Further Promoting Garbage Sorting, hereinafter referred to as the Implementation Opinions on July 31.
The Implementation Opinions clearly stated that Chongqing will comprehensively implement waste sorting in a three-step way.
In 2019, all districts and counties, urban areas, and townships, fully implement the garbage sorting, and the garbage recycling rate in the downtown area reaches 28%.
In 2020, the recycling rate in downtown Chongqing will reach 35%. Moreover, the urban garbage sorting and treatment system will be basically completed, which means that the garbage sorting will be fully covered in the downtown area.
The third step is to basically complete the municipal waste sorting and treatment system in 2022, that is, the whole municipality will realize the full coverage of waste sorting.
Urban residents mainly sort other garbage and perishable garbage at home on a daily basis and separate the occasional harmful garbage to the designated delivery point.
For urban residential areas, it is necessary to set up garbage disposal facilities according to the amount of garbage generated and the type of production. Generally speaking, one community as one hazardous waste collection point.
The focus for rural residents is promoting garbage sorting according to local conditions.
Furthermore, in terms of the whole municipality, four-level sorting instructor system involving the downtown, districts, counties, townships and villages or communities will be implemented to strengthen on-site guidance.
If the institutions, enterprises, communities or individual do not sort garbage, the city administrative department shall order it to make corrections within a time limit. If not, violators shall be fined.
When implementing waste sorting, Chongqing pays attention to the effects of waste distribution, collection, transportation, and disposal, and strives to achieve full chain promotion.
Chongqing implements garbage sorting in a simple and easy way. And an official public WeChat account for garbage sorting has been opened At the same time, it is necessary to standardize the collection of garbage. With the goal of whole process sorting, Chongqing will actively promote market-oriented and specialized transportation modes, and support professional transportation companies to involve in garbage sorting and transporting.
