Embracing Yangtze River, Jialing River, and mountains standing inside the city—Nan'an district is beautiful. Protecting national treasures from war—it is brave. Boasting the grand view of magnificent Yangtze River, green Nanshan Mountain, and yellow Guangyang Island-- it is insightful.

Nan’an District and National Treasures

On the night of February 5, 1933, Beiping City was under martial law. Dozens of handcarts, carrying 13,427 boxes and 64 packages of artifacts were selected from the Palace Museum and sent off to the railway station from Shenwumen Square...

In May 1938, these national treasures secretly arrived in Chongqing and were kept in three places. One of the secret hideouts consisted of four warehouses  belonging to the Anderson Firm. These warehouses were the home of 3,694 boxes of artifacts. Anderson came from Sweden, a neutral state during the Second World War. Every time when enemies' planes began bombing, he would raise his national flag. Fortunately, these treasures survived the war.

In 2018, the site of former Anderson Firm witnessed the signing ceremony of Gugong Institute (Chongqing). To better preserve and revive historical buildings, Southwards Relocation of Palace Museum’s Artifacts Memorial and Forbidden City Gallery (Chongqing) will settle down there. In the near future, the Institute will bring in the latest types of cultural business of Palace Museum and establish experience halls. Relying on cutting-edge technologies like VR, it aims to integrate digital with physical exhibitions and create a harmonious environment for leisure commerce and educational experience. More than that, Gugong Institute (Chongqing) is supposed to become an art exhibition space for interaction and communication, while comprehensively presenting the culture of the Palace Museum.

Guangyang Island

In ancient times, Guangyang Island was the main settlement of Ba people and home of fishing & hunting civilization along the Yangtze River. In 1929, the National Revolutionary Army built an airport there, which became an air base during the war. Between the 1960s and 1980s, Guangyang Island welcomed Guangyangba Farm, a national hockey training base and the municipal sports training base.

In 2010, Chongqing Jiangbeizui Central Business District Investment Group Co., Ltd. worked with Nan’an District to develop Guangyang Island. As of now, they have almost finished municipal infrastructure, landscape and greening projects and revetment works, shaping a sound environment with supporting municipal facilities. The most striking view on the island is the vast area of canola flowers. When they bloom in spring, Guangyang Island will become a destination for people to enjoy the breathtaking landscape.

Take a Photo in Chongqing to Shine Your Social Network

Nan’an District is an integral part of Chongqing, which is known as “A Land of Natural Beauty, A City with Cultural Appeal”. Photos are a carrier of culture and history, much more than a tool to leave a visual impact. There are several places to take impressive photos.

Nanshan Mountain

Nanshan Mountain is the nearest mountain to the main urban area of Chongqing and is one of the favorite places of photographers for it has Yikeshu Lookout Point, Giant Golden Eagle, and Three Rocks.

It is a traditional and classic place to incorporate mountains, rivers and the green city in one shoot. At the top of the mountain, photographers can overlook the entire Yuzhong Peninsula, which is surrounded by the Yangtze River. During the day, they can take photos of skyscrapers, envisioning the bright future of Chongqing; during the night, they can see the myriad lights twinkling in buildings, feeling the warmth of living in Chongqing.

Nanbin Road

Views along Nanbin Road are extremely attractive. Photographers can get unexpectedly satisfactory pictures either in front of buildings or Yangtze River there.

When it comes to April, the dry season, reefs, which are hidden below the river near Wangjiatuo of Nanbin Road and extend kilometers, will come out of the river. Putting this unique landscape of Chongqing, a “city on rivers”, in the foreground, photographers can shoot special and impressive pictures of bridges, the city, and the river. At night, the moonlight will shine the river, thus creating one of the Twelve Views of Ancient Bayu (Chongqing)—Longmen Haoyue (“Bright moon of Longmen”).

Yangtze River Cableway

Shangxinjie Station of Yangtze River Cableway is the best place, in that photographers can put the Cableway in the foreground and take Yuzhong Peninsula as the background. At different times, seasons and weather, the Cableway and the city can produce varied fascinating landscapes: in rainy or foggy days, the two loom up out of the moisture or mist; in sunny days, moving carriages and towering skyscrapers prove the prosperity of Chongqing.
