On behalf of Bayu culture, Ciqikou ancient town is one of the must-see scenic spots for tourists. Visitors from all over the world who come to Chongqing must come over to Ciqikou to eat local street food and walk on the ancient town to experience Bayu traditional culture. However, few people get the knowledge of the history and culture behind the old town.
Ciqikou ancient town is located at the bank of the Jialing River, and it’s an important land and water wharf by the Jialing river. According to records, the construction of Ciqikou town began in the Song Dynasty (998 to 1003 AD). In the early years of the Qing Dynasty (1636 to 1912 AD), it got its name from producing and transporting porcelain. Ciqikou was the north gate of ancient Chongqing. Taking advantage of near the Jialing river, it had formed a prosperous commercial dock since the Ming Dynasty (1368 to 1644 AD).
In 1958, the wharf was moved to others place, and the function of Ciqikou as the distribution center and transfer station of water and land wharf gradually disappeared. To protect this relic rich in history and culture, the government preserved the architectural style of Ming and Qing dynasties and built Ciqikou ancient town into a scenic spot of folk culture block.

Shapingba is also the birthplace of Hongyan spirit. Hongyan spirit is a revolutionary spirit tempered and formed with blood and life in the practice of the revolutionary fighters fighting against the reactionary force, striving for national independence and people's liberation in anti-Japanese war and liberation war.
Hongyan spirit was born in White Residence prison site and Prison Zhazi of Shapingba district, where the Kuomintang reactionaries imprisoned the communists during the Anti-Japanese War and War of Liberation. On the eve of the victory of the liberation war, the communists fought a desperate battle with them. It includes four aspects of lofty thought realm, firm convictions, high personality power, and giant revolutionary righteousness, summed up as patriotism, struggle, unity, and dedication.
In 1955, Chongqing municipal people's government built martyrs' cemetery and monument here to commemorate these heroes.

According to statistics, during the Anti-Japanese War, more than 30 universities in China moved to Chongqing, accounting for 65% of the total number of universities in southwest China. As a result, the number of universities in Chongqing reached 38 in the later period of the Anti-Japanese War, ranking first in China. Most of them have settled in Shapingba.
Shapingba's university town was one of only two places in Chongqing where electrical power could not be cut off during the Anti-Japanese War. The areas around Shapingba National Central University and Chongqing University are brightly lit. It was also regarded as the symbol of Chinese culture and academic center during the war.
Shapingba university town also nourished a large number of talents, such as Nobel physics prize winner, professor Ding Zhaozhong of Massachusetts institute of technology, 2007 top national science, and technology award winner Min Enze, the designer of five-star red flag Zeng Liansong and so on.
Railway logistics base

In addition to being a historical and cultural city of Chongqing, Shapingba has become a vital connection fulcrum of "one belt" and "one road" and the starting point of several international railway logistics channels. Located in Tuanjiecun of Shapingba, central container station is an essential intersection of China-Europe railway (Chongqing) and land-sea new channel. By June 30, 2019, the land-sea new channel had been operated a total of 1,200 times. The China-Europe railway express (Chongqing) has run 3,800 times and reach 15 countries along the "One Belt and One Road" route.
The Tuanjiecun station, built in 1975, was originally a fourth-grade station on the Xiangyang-Chongqing railway line, with only three tracks. In 2007, the ministry of railways selected it to build a national container center station and marshaling station. The Tuzhu town and Huilongba town were selected because of their geographical advantages. In the same year, Chongqing municipal people's government decided to build a new logistics city of 35 square kilometers, which is now Chongqing international logistics hub park, relying on these two railway hub resources.
