Jinqiao Chuida is a kind of folk wind and percussion music widely played in Jinqiao Town, Wansheng District, Chongqing. Originated in the Song and Yuan Dynasties, it has a history of more than 700 years. Now there are more than 70 performance teams and more than 800 performers in Jinqiao Town. During its long-term development, Jinqiao Chuida has been played for joyful events, production,daily life, funeral, folklore telling, etc. with tunes such as Huadeng, Daqupai, Chaopai and Gongtang as well as performance forms such as pinda, diaoda, sanda, ganda, jiada, diaosanda,bamboo leave blowing and whistling. Over 1,000 pieces of music can be played. Its features are as follows: Pure tone, stable rhythm, no vague and prolonged sound, wide pitch, loud volume, immense strength, lively style, strong penetrating power, famous “mafengsheng” (Horse and Wind Sound) school.
In May 2006, the State Council of the P.R.C. approved listing Chuida (Jinqiao Chuida) among the first batch of national intangible cultural heritage.
