Liu’s acupuncture therapy is now being run by Liu Guangrui. He is the fifth generation of Liu’s who has inherited the folk therapy as a family heritage from his father, the prestigious doctor Liu Shaolin, and other predecessors.
The time-honored Liu’s acupuncture therapy has formed its strengths during a long history of development. Soundly grounded in medical theories, enshrouded in mystery, it is effective in healing and connects to all the other kinds of medicine. In clinical practice, it features clear objectives, privacy-conscious operation, and local medicinal materials. The core of what it passes down is both an excellent therapy and a guideline for clinical treatment.
Liu’s acupuncture therapy is an important part of Chinese folk medicine, has been popular for thousands of years in Chongqing. It counts as an advantageous and excellent treatment method in Chinese folk medicine. To save and preserve Liu’s acupuncture therapy is of high academic significance for the study of modern traditional Chinese medicine, microcirculation, collateral disease theory, bloodletting therapy, and fire iron therapy.
In June 2008, the State Council of the P.R.C. approved including Liu’s acupuncture therapy in the extension part of the list of the second batch of national intangible cultural heritage.
