Chongqing University of Posts and Telecommunications (CQUPT), one of the key post and telecommunications universities established by the government, is a teaching and research university jointly built by the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology of the People’s Republic of China and the Chongqing Municipal People's Government, a first-class discipline construction university in Chongqing, and a member of Alliance of CDIO.

CQUPT is located in Chongqing, the economic and industrial center of southwest China and the upper reaches of the Yangtze River, covering 253 hectares of land with a beautiful environment and complete facilities. The university has 17 faculties with 61 undergraduate majors, covering Engineering, Science, Economics, Management, Literature, Arts, Law and other disciplines. At present, there are more than 27,000 students in school, including more than 5,800 graduate students. There are more than 2,100 faculty members in service, including more than 870 with senior titles and more than 900 doctoral and master's degree supervisors.

Discipline Development

CQUPT adheres to the national strategy of "double first-class" as the leading, aims at the frontier of discipline development at home and abroad, further optimizes the structure of disciplines and specialties, integrates the development of multiple disciplines, continuously improves the level of discipline construction and enhances the domestic reputation of its disciplines. Seven majors, including Communication Engineering, have passed the China Engineering Education Professional Certification. The university has 3 first-class disciplines in Chongqing, 16 key disciplines in Chongqing, 2 postdoctoral research stations, 10 postdoctoral research workstations, 2 disciplines authorized to offer doctoral degree programs, 18 disciplines authorized to offer master degree programs, and 25 professional master's degree categories and professional fields. In addition, two disciplines have been ranked in the top 1% of ESI.

Talent Cultivation

CQUPT is committed to educating people and has trained more than 150,000 talents for the information and communication industry and local communities over the past 72 years, and is known as the "cradle of information and communication talents in China". The university has more than 30 academicians and 150 famous experts and scholars from the Chinese Academy of Sciences, the Chinese Academy of Engineering, the United Kingdom, Canada, the United States, Poland, India and other countries as part-time professors or honorary professors. The university has more than 160 high-level talents including National Ten Thousand Talents Program, the Yangtze River Scholars and National Science Fund for Distinguished Young Scholars, more than 110 outstanding backbone teachers, national outstanding science and technology workers, Chongqing famous teachers and Chongqing outstanding educators, 3 national teaching teams and virtual teaching and research laboratories, and 42 municipal teaching teams/grassroots teaching organizations.

Scientific Research

CQUPT adheres to independent innovation, and is a national advanced collective in information industry science and technology innovation and a national high-tech industrialization demonstration project base, and is known as the "birthplace of digital communication in China". The university has successfully developed the first set of 24-way, 30/32-way pulse coder and 120-way multiplexer and their supporting instruments in accordance with ITU standards, participated in the formulation of the third-generation mobile communication standards and designed the world's first TD-SCDMA baseband chip, etc. In recent years, the university has undertaken more than 510 national projects, more than 1,260 provincial and ministerial projects, and has gained more than 150 provincial and ministerial awards, including 4 national awards, 28 provincial and ministerial first-class awards, and more than 3,100 authorized invention patents.
