Chongqing University, located in SW China, Chongqing, was established in 1929 and developed into a national comprehensive university in the 1940s with a great focus on research in Humanities, Science, Engineering, Business, Law, and Medicine.
Following the nationwide restructuring of the university and college systems in 1952, Chongqing University became a multidisciplinary university under the direct administration of the Ministry of Higher Education (merged into the State Ministry of Education in 1958) with engineering as the main focus. In 1960, it was identified as a key national university. Since China opened up to the world in 1978, Chongqing University has made great efforts to strengthen Humanities and Social Sciences disciplines, promote integrated development across multiple disciplines, and gradually grow into a comprehensive research university. In 1998, Chongqing University was in the first batch of universities to be included in “Project 211”. In 2000, Chongqing University merged with Chongqing Jianzhu University and Chongqing Architectural College, setting sail on a new adventure with concerted strength to play a vanguard role in realizing national rejuvenation. In 2001, it became a member of “Project 985”. In 2004, Chongqing University was selected as a centrally-administrated university. In 2017, Chongqing University officially became a member of the“Double First-Class” key construction universities in China's higher education.
Over 90 years, the university took the initiative to give full play to be integrated to the national strategy, serve the local development, concentrate on talent training and bravely climb the scientific peak. Chongqing University has always been at the forefront of national higher education development.
