B&R International Skills Competition, to be held May 26-31 in Chongqing International Expo Center, unveiled its mascot—a panda named Lu Bao Bao. The competition will welcome 698 skilled participants from 44 countries and regions to compete.

Inspired by the giant panda, perhaps the most well-known animal of China, Lu Bao Baois the embodiment of the competition’s spirit: friendship, peace, cooperation and progress, and bears all the good wishes from its Organizing Committee.

Baby-Road

B&R International Skills Competition unveiled its mascot- a panda named Baby Road, with a good implication

Where did the name of Lu Bao Bao come from? The word, Road, is excerpted from the BRI. Meanwhile, in Chinese, this word, pronounced as Lu, is a homophone of the surname of Lu Ban, the great master of crafts. It also echoes the Competition’s logo, the Lu Ban Lock, also known as the burr puzzle in English. Bao Bao means baby in English, is a reflection of the world’s affection for giant pandas. It represents precious labor and responsibility in China. Additionally, the name Lu Bao Bao encourages competitors to fulfill their tasks and perfect their skills.

Lu Bao Bao wears an orange hat and blue overalls, both with the competition's logo, an orange belt, and a white towel draped over its shoulder. The outfit represents a common look that professional technicians have at work.

It is worth noting that orange represents the Silk Road Economic Belt and Blue the 21st Century Maritime Silk Road. Their harmonious coexistence is a beautiful vision of cooperation, win-win outcomes and common development.

The posture of Lu Bao Bao is also meaningful. The thumbs up are to praise the call for “devotion to work, developing precious skills and pursuing great innovation.” The extending left hand seems to welcome, on behalf of the competition, all of the skilled people and competitors.

At the end of May, Lu Bao Bao will step onto the stage of the Competition to demonstrate Chinese crafts and Chongqing culture to the world.
