On March 30, Chen Min`er, Member of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee, Secretary of the Municipal Party Committee, Tang Liangzhi, the Mayor of Chongqing met with Lee Nak-Yeon, Prime Minister of South Korea.

On behalf of the municipal party committee and the municipal government, Chen Min`er and Tang Liangzhi welcomed Lee Nak-Yeon and his crews. Chen Min`er indicated that President Xi Jinping and President Moon Jae-in have reached a series of important consensus on the development of bilateral relations between China and South Korea and pointed out the direction for deepening local exchanges and cooperation.

Besides, Chen said, we will conscientiously implement the consensus of the two heads of state and make more contributions to promoting the development of China-South Korea’s strategic partnership. As the only southwest municipality directly under the central government in China, Chongqing is based on the important strategic fulcrum of western development. It is the Belt and Road and the Yangtze River Economic Belt linkage point, which is also accelerating the construction of inland open highlands, and taking the lead in the western inland areas to open up. Promoting the campaign of “A Land with Natural Beauty, A City with Cultural Appeal”, Chongqing aims to build an important ecological city in the upper reaches of the Yangtze River. Guided by the intelligence of big data, we will accelerate the construction of an important modern manufacturing base in the country and focus on promoting high-quality development. Coordinating with the two fundamentals of rural revitalization and urban upgrading, Chongqing is striving to create a high quality of life. Chongqing and South Korea have a long history of friendship. The former site of the Provisional Government of the Republic of Korea in Chongqing and the former headquarters of the Korean Reconstruction Army Command in Chongqing have witnessed the unforgettable history of the two countries. Chen Min`er suggested that he hopes that the Prime Minister will take this visit as an opportunity to expand the two sides' pragmatic cooperation in the fields of economy, trade, education, science, and technology to more benefit the people of the two places.

Lee Nak-Yeon congratulated Chongqing on its achievements in economic and social development. He said that South Korea and China are important neighbors and are important partners for each other. Lee Nak-Yeon said he cherished the special relationship with Chongqing and appreciated Chongqing for its efforts to protect the historical site of Provisional Government of the Republic of Korea. Chongqing is a major manufacturing city in China and is vigorously promoting the intelligent innovation of big data. The development of the city is really impressive. He suggested that South Korea is willing to actively deepen exchanges and cooperation based on a common historical basis, promote more Korean enterprises to invest and develop their businesses in Chongqing, strengthen youth cultural exchanges from both sides, and push local exchanges to a new level.
