Chongqing Steps Up Efforts to Build International Aviation Hub

Chongqing Jiangbei International Airport is an aviation hub in southwestern China.

Chongqing - In 2019, Chongqing will strive to start the construction of Terminal 3B and a fourth runway of Chongqing Jiangbei International Airport. Also, it makes overall planning on the second airport hub and freight station. In addition, the Chongqing Municipality plans to launch 10 new international air routes this year.

T3B and a fourth runway

The construction project of Chongqing Jiangbei International Airport mainly includes Terminal 3B, a fourth runway, freight station, and supporting facilities.

Besides this, the Terminal 3B is 350,000 square meters. The fourth runway will be 3,400-3,800 meters long. And, the freight station is 100,000 square meters. Moreover, it will also adopt an automated people mover system to connect T1, T2, and T3.

Feeder airports

In terms of feeder airports outside the urban area of Chongqing, the expansion project of Qianjiang Wulingshan Airport has begun. The project includes a terminal of 12,000 square meters and seven parking stands. The reconstructed airport will come into use in 2019.

Wanzhou Wuqiao Airport will lengthen the runways from 2,400 meters to 2,800 meters toward southeast in the project. It will also build a CAT I precision approach system for the secondary landing direction, and a new Terminal 2. And, it will build and expand its supporting facilities.

Located in Fairy Mountain, Wulong County, Wulong Airport has started construction in 2017. In the meanwhile, it will complete and put into use in 2019.

Chongqing Wushan Airport is at the juncture between Wushan County and Fengjie County, 15 kilometers away from Wushan County. Its airfield is for the take-off and landing of Boeing 737, Airbus A320, and small-and-medium-sized aircraft like EMB145 or ERJ190.

Da’an General Aviation Aerodrome sits in Yongchuan District. After its completion, it will provide emergency rescues and develop extended functions to adapt to regional economic and business needs. For example, it will open low-altitude commercial routes for small fixed-wing planes.

Chongqing to launch 10 intl' air routes in 2019

In 2018, the city launched 14 international air routes, bringing the total number of overseas routes to 82. Moreover, the Chongqing Jiangbei International Airport handled 41.6 million passengers last year. Meanwhile, about three million of whom left for and arrived from overseas destinations.

Chongqing has direct flight routes to New York, Los Angeles, London, Paris, Rome, Moscow, and Helsinki. Air cargo routes connect the city with Frankfurt, Amsterdam, Chicago, and Sydney.

By 2020, the airport aims to bring the total number of air routes to 100 and handle 50 million passengers.
