The third Charming China · Detroit Sino-US Cultural and Art Festival held Chongqing Day on September 13. It landed on the Mid-Autumn Festival, a traditional Chinese festival, and the fantastic content of the 2019 Sensing Chongqing · Miao Township Culture Exchange Activity attracted the attention of many citizens.

The Chongqing Time City Creative Show photo exhibition held at Detroit city hall presented Chongqing’s unique ecological resources, urban style, and humanistic tourism landscape through vivid and humanistic images. It displayed the essence of Miao Township Culture such as Pengshui Chiyou Culture, Yandan Culture, and Central Guizhou Culture. Pengshui Chiyou Jiuli City and other boutique tourist attractions, as well as the unique charm of Pengshui, the “Miao Township of the World,” left a deep impression on the audience.

In Detroit city hall square, Chongqing Jiaoayi National Arts Group from Pengshui presented Chongqing Miao Township artistic performance themed “A Land of Natural Beauty, A City with Cultural Appeal” to the citizens. This incredible performance was accompanied by Chinese folk music. It showcased the essence of Chinese traditional culture and the original works that can reflect the Pengshui regional characteristics and Miao amorous feelings. It demonstrated the humanistic charm of the Chinese nation through beautiful music, graceful dance, and exquisite costumes. The audience could feel thousands of years of cultural deposits presented by Chinese culture.

Prestigious guests attended the Tourism Promotion Meeting.

During the Tourism Promotion Meeting themed “A Land of Natural Beauty, A City with Cultural Appeal”, many prestigious guests were in attendance including: Zhao Jian, consul general of China in Chicago, Cynthia Johnson, representative of Michigan, McDonald, Marshall Block and Jim Lunestad, senators of Michigan, Wang Lisha, president of Chinese Alliance of North America, staff of Detroit municipal government, community and business media.

At the promotion meeting, Zhang Hongbin, deputy director of Publicity Department of the CPC Chongqing Municipal Committee, said that although Chongqing and Detroit are thousands of miles apart, the mutual understanding between them is deep and communication is close. As the Far East Command Center of the Global War against Fascism, a large number of historical sites where China and the United States cooperated during WWII were left in Chongqing. For this reason, Chongqing built the General Stilwell Museum, Flying Tigers Exhibition Hall, and other cultural facilities to witness the friendship between China and the US. Benefiting from the profound friendship between the two countries, Detroit-based Ford and Chongqing Chang’an Automobile Group jointly established Chang’an Ford Automobile Production Base, with an annual output of 400,000 vehicles and yearly sales of more than 380,000 vehicles in 2018. 

Detroit is a world-famous Motor City, and Chongqing is one of the largest automobile production bases in China. The profound friendship and industrial cooperation between Chongqing and Detroit will continue to grow with each passing day.

He also introduced the human geography, development status and the unique and mysterious Miao Township Culture of Chongqing, and extended an invitation to the world to participate in the Western Tourism Expo and Smart China Expo in 2020 at the promotion meeting.

The table tennis exhibition match for continuing Sino-US “Ping-pong Diplomacy” pushed the Chongqing Day activity to the climax. Zhao Jian, consul general of China in Chicago and Zhang Hongbin, deputy director of Publicity Department of the CPC Chongqing Municipal Committee, exchanged their skills with the American guests respectively, and their wonderful performances won the applause from the audience.

Reportedly, the 2019 Sensing Chongqing · Miao Township Culture Exchange Activity will also take place in Minneapolis and St. Paul.
