Chongqing is famous for "the hot spring capital" in China and even in the world. The city embraces abundant hot spring resources here. In winter, hot springs of the city will promote the quality of the family tour. There are 5 recommended hot springs below (in no particular order):
The Northern Hot Spring is in Beibei District. Additionally, it is along with the Jialing River in the north and leaning Jinyun Mountain in the south. As a national 4A scenic area, it is a hot spring park with the longest history in Chinese history. As a hot spring temple before, it was initially founded in the Southern Dynasties (423) and rebuilt in the Ming Dynasty (1432). In 1927, Lu Zuofu founded Hot Springs Park of Jialing River here. Afterward, he added tourist facilities such as hot springs swimming pool, bathroom and dining room, which was later renamed Chongqing Northern Hot Springs Park. It is an amazing hot spring for the family tour with a long history.
Northern Hot Springs for the family tour
There are 10 springs in the Park, with the daily flowing volume of spring water 5,675 tons. The water temperature ranging from 35°C to 37°C. It belongs to alkalescence sulfuric acid type mineral spring, which is good to the skin, in joints and stomach. It is within the Southern Hot Springs Tourist Attraction in the southern suburb of Chongqing, founded in 1927. The Southern Hot Springs Park is 18 kilometers far from Chongqing downtown. In addition, it boasts characteristic buildings full of South Asian style, rich Buddhism and Zen culture and volcano culture. It is a first-class standard park in Chongqing, with its touring area of 20 hectares, with 7 hectares of Water Park and 16 hectares of green land. Besides, there are 4 scenic areas, where there are 121 species, 269 genera and 344 kinds of plants.

The spring is from 3 kilometers deep from the earth’s core with tens-of-thousands-of-years’ mineralization age. The water temperature is as high as 57℃ and the flowing height reaches 100 meters. Besides, it is rich in metasilicic acid, metaboric acid, as well as various kinds of microelement. These elements are favorable for human health such as sulfur, calcium, magnesium, strontium, and fluorine. Therefore, it is also referred to as “Magnesium Strontium Hot Springs”. Tongjing Hot Spring is within Tongjing Scenic Area in northern Chongqing, near the Tongjing Gorge. It owns “The Best Tongjing Hot Springs in the World” because of the “Little Three Gorges” landscape. Additionally, it has the largest and most concentrated natural hot springs group in the national 4A scenic areas. There are 25 natural hot springs in Tongjing, with water temperature ranging from 20℃-30℃, with the maximum of 62℃, and daily flowing volume being 30,000 tons. The water has calcium sulfate mineral springs, rich in various components and microelements such as barium, fluorine, calcium sulfate and metasilicic acid, and so on. The content of strontium reaches 15.91mg/L, boasting excellent medical and healthcare effects among the hot spring water there.
Tongjing Hot Springs for the family tour
Its floor area is 17,500 square meters, with 9,500 square meters of gardens and 8,000 square meters of housing construction, including outdoor swimming pools for adults and children, indoor couple pools and parking lots.

Eastern Hot Springs Hot Cave is located in the southern foothill of Muer Mountain and is one of the four famous springs (Eastern, Southern, Western and Northern Hot Springs). It is popular in Bayu and is formed due to karst valley terrain. It is one of the three famous hot caves in the world. In the 100-plus-meter long cave, the constant temperature is 43°C, and there are various kinds of the cave with different diameters, larger than high and spacious halls, or smaller than low and narrow valleys. There are two hot springs, with spring water flowing continuously. The Hot Cave can be used for bath, including steam bath and water bath, thus it is also known as the “natural sauna”.

In winter, mountain climbing is a compulsory course for people who like exercises and prefer to train their children on weekend. Here, we only recommend Shengdeng Mountain in Banan District, which is the only one-hour range of driving to the main city of Chongqing. It is the best destination for mountain climbing, learning, nature-cultivation, fitness and touring, and nature photography. It boasts dense trees and various kinds of plants, including more than 120 species such as Pinaceae and Taxodiaceae, as well as centuries-old ancient woods and other rare trees.
Shengdeng Mountain for the family tour
You will enjoy a brilliant mountain climbing experience owing to the unique landform here. As most of the paths are open on rocks and bold cliffs, visitors need to use their hands and feet to pass, so as to feel the fun of steep paths and experience the meaning of “mountain climbing”.
