On April 29, the International Horticultural Exhibition 2019 (abbreviated as “the Expo 2019” below) got off to a grand start. Themed on “Mountain City with the Green Mountains and Clear Rivers and Rural Park Full of Uphills and Downhills”, the Chongqing Garden focuses on displaying Chongqing’s unique trait that combines “mountainous and riverfront cityscapes” and integrates “nature and home” in spatial design.

Covering an area of 3,000 square meters, the entire garden consists of the three functional zones of Chongqing Impression Zone, Forest, Farmland, Lake and Meadow Ecological Exhibition Zone, and Beautiful Home Demonstration Zone.

With a rural terraced field as the backbone, this Farmland, Lake and Meadow Ecological Exhibition Zone creates an ecosystem in which forests, terraced fields, waters, gallery bridges, and natural vegetation coexist in harmony. The sunken-styling space design carries an open and refreshing feeling and brings the unique experience of walking on hills and stepping on steps in the mountain city of Chongqing. Walking along the gallery bridge, you will reach the Beautiful Home Demonstration Zone, the unique site of Chongqing Garden.

In this presenting zone, a typical complex shares the typical advantages of grey tile roof and column-and-tie structure with traditional rural yards in Bayu regions. A thatched cottage is located in this yard, decorated with such traditional articles of old winnower, plow harrow, well, brick carving, etc. On the outside wall of this cottage, there are strings of chilies and corn cobs. Pepper plants and other vegetables are grown in a small garden beside. Moreover, even all tables, chairs, and columns are telling stories of the bygone days. All of those wood, stones, tables, and chairs originated from Chongqing.

At the mention of Chongqing, nobody will fail to think about the hot pot. Visitors will see a typical Chongqing hot pot served in the Beautiful Home Presenting Zone, with beef omasum, marbled meat slices, bamboo shoots, quail eggs, and other must-try delicacies scattering around that table. It attracted lots of tourists to take photos.

Besides, visitors will have the chance to enjoy Rongcahng Grass Cloth, Liangping New Year Posters, Qijiang Peasant Prints and other representative intangible cultural heritage of Chongqing in this typical rural yard. It has cleverly integrated the garden art, life, culture, and art, presenting a good combination of garden art and life.

Almost everything famous in Chongqing was presented there

Arranged by the Organizing Committee of the Expo 2019, “Chongqing’s Day” will be held from 25 to 27 in July. Revolving around “A land of natural beauty, a city with the cultural appeal”, Chongqing’s achievements in development and image of openness will be presented through attractive and typical activities including economic and trade cooperation, product exhibition, tourism promotion, and cultural exchanges.
