According to the information from General Security Corps of Chongqing Municipal Public Security Bureau, from June 1, 2019, residence permits for Hong Kong/Macao/Taiwan residents can get handled at household registration in public security offices (your local police station) of the city. The waiting time is also reduced from 20 to 15 workdays, offering convenience for you to apply for a permit nearby.

At least one acceptance point is accessible within the jurisdiction of each PSB office at the district/county level, and the residence permit application work for Hong Kong/Macao/Taiwan residents has started since September 1, 2018. In December 2018, in accordance with Measures for the Application and Issuance of Residence Permits for Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan Residents issued by the State Council, Chongqing Municipal People's Government issued the Implementation Rules of Chongqing for the Application and Issuance of Residence Permits for Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan Residents based on local conditions.
Holders of Hong Kong, Macao or Taiwan residence permits may enjoy three rights stipulated by the state including employment, social insurance, and payment, withdrawal, and use of housing fund, six essential public services. For example, it contains compulsory education, public employment services, and essential public health services. Moreover, they can also enjoy nine facilitation services including motor vehicle registration at the place of residence, application for motor vehicle driving license, accommodation in inland (mainland) hotels, taking domestic flights, trains and other means of transportation.
Those who have stayed in the inland (mainland) for more than half a year and meet one of the requirements of legal and stable employment, legal and stable residence and continuous study can apply for and obtain residence permits from relevant acceptance points of the public security offices at the district/county level in their place of residence. According to statistics, since the start of the residence permit application work, Chongqing has served over 2,400 people.
