The soliciting of contributions for the well-received and widely-concerned “Global Competition of Collecting Golden Ideas for the Integrated Development of Culture and Tourism”, lasted for over three months and was completed on April 19. The participants have offered their suggestions by uploading on the official website, mailing written documents, on-site submitting, and other ways. At last, the organizing committee has gathered 1,180 acceptable works in total. Among them, over 100 works are from the culture and tourism experts and planning agencies from home and abroad.

“In general, it reveals the strong appeal of this activity to the public.” The organizing committee added that both the quality and quantity of the contributions were higher than expected. To ensure the quality and give the participants clear targets, the organizing committee had provided eight directions for reference. The main purpose is to promote the five aspects of “the Three Gorges”, “downtown”, “culture”, “hot spring”, and “county”, which were proposed on the Chongqing Tourism Development Conference in May 2018.

“In essence, the opinion soliciting is a process of pooling public wisdom from a larger scale.” According to Luo Zibai, Director of Chongqing Tourism Development Research Center and Senior Advisor of Tourism Development of People’s Government of Chongqing. He also mentioned that the departments concerned should pay special attention to the advice from professional organizations and experts for their broader horizons and deeper know-how. It is hopeful that the future will witness the implementation of some of these suggestions.

To be specific, the downtown Chongqing can make use of light to create a night view light show of the mountain city. By taking the high-rise buildings on both sides of the Yangtze River as the background it will deliver brand-new night view experience to the tourists. Meanwhile, the high technologies will be introduced in the show and the cultural and natural landscape landmarks of the Three Gorges tourist destination will be integrated to make a distinctive and rounded “Three Gorges Night Cruise” product, thus promoting the night-time economy along the tourist routes.

The “Global Competition of Collecting Golden Ideas for the Integrated Development of Culture and Tourism” has entered its expert review stage. The whole event is planned to end in mid-late June when the golden idea achievements signing ceremony will be held and included in the overall scheme of the Western China Tourism Industry Expo.
