The CRT lines in Chongqing represent the backbone of the city's public transportation system. Every major district in Downtown Chongqing is well connected and by now, most have more than 1 line running through it. Using the CRT system is easy. You can purchase single-use tickets at the vending machines in the stations, or through the operators sitting in information booths. The ticket machines have English language interfaces and accept coins and notes. More and more of the ticketing machines have started taking WeChat payments as well.

Opening hours for the CRT is between 6:30 am to 10:30 pm every day. Fares vary from about 2 RMB to 10 RMB for a single trip and is based on the distance from your starting station to the station where you exit.

If you are staying in Chongqing for more than a few days, it is worthwhile buying the IC Transportation card. The card is a one-time purchase of about 20 RMB, you can then charge the card with money through the ticket machine or through the operators and swipe the IC card for each trip on the CRT or the local buses for a smaller fee each trip.
