Chongqing – Chongqing is known as China’s “motor city”, with many car and motorcycle manufacturing giants calling the city home. In this age of A.I. and intelligent manufacturing, how will these new technologies change the landscape for the Chinese branch of one of the biggest car manufactures in the world – Chang’an Ford? What are the new measures in intelligent manufacturing coming into play? During the 2^nd WCIFIT, iChongqing interviewed with Chen zhuo, the Vice General manager of the PR department of Chang’an Automobile on May 17^th, to explore the new direction of this manufacturer giant.    

Invest RMB 3 billion on Intelligent Manufacturing

Chang’an Ford have voluntarily eliminated 1.4 million relatively backward production capacity distributed throughout the country in the past two years.

According to Chen, Chang’an Ford have voluntarily eliminated 1.4 million relatively backward production capacity distributed throughout the country in the past two years. The production capacity between 1.2 million and 1.4 million leaves only 80,000. After this original 1.4 million production capacity, they invested in 3 factories - Chang 'a No.1, 2 and 3 factories, located in Chongqing. According to Ford, these are now producing and manufacturing some of the most advanced and intelligent systems in China.

This welding is fully mechanized, and as are rolling coating rolls, for example. The whole intelligent body runs across the Amway system. The total investment of these factories in Chongqing is about 3 billion Yuan. According to Ford, these factories will be further advanced in the future. After eliminating some old products, it will provide a practical significance in manufacturing methods, creating an intelligent, highly reliable and high-quality product in the next 5 to 10 years.

Ford to stop producing traditional vehicles within 5 years

As for Chang’an Ford’s plan to stop producing traditional gas-burning vehicles by 2025, the Vice CEO stated that Ford has a new generation of powertrain platforms, which has realized a compact enterprising design. They have a very high power under the same system. In fact, all of the designs are reserved for future interfaces with the point electric valve system. In the future, this platform will be very easy to extend. It is a gas-electric hybrid car. As for this aspect, Ford has already implemented its strategy for the products in the next 5 years on the power train equipment in the previous 4 to 5 years and fully solved it. Then on this platform, a series of products can be extended, which can be decided according to the market demand. A spokesman later stated, “when this market demand is met, our products will go into the hands and driveways of our consumers”.

A spokesman also said “In the next 3 years, Chang 'an will have 13 new energy vehicles. Then seven of them will be brand-new products. We will meet with consumers in the next three years to provide them with more electric products and services”.
