Admiral Prof. Jayanath Colombage Discusses Topic of COVID-19 Response – Human Rights or Right to Life?

Chongqing - On May 9, an international seminar on “Guarantee of the Right to Life in Epidemic Prevention and Control” was held at Southwest University of Political Science and Law. Among the guest speakers was Admiral Prof. Jayanath Colombage, government advisor of Sri Lanka and director of the Pathfinder Foundation's India-Sri Lanka Initiative and Maritime Law Centre.

Since individual presentations at the seminar were limited to ten minutes, Prof. Colombage accepted our interview request to expand on his presentation without time constraints and addressed further issues concerning the push to re-open business early in nations worldwide, and expressed his perspective about China's response to the epidemic.

A feature of the Sri Lankan response to the epidemic was to avoid politicization by establishing a specialist panel of scientists and medical experts, whose role it is to formulate the most effective plan of action that takes into account the unique socio-economic nature of the island nation.
