Chongqing- Southwest China's Chongqing Municipality released a plan on March 2 to build up the value of the Three Gorges Reservoir with its new landmark and business card.  The press conference about the Yangtze landscapes of the Three Gorges Reservoir cross-regional development plan was held by the Information Office of Chongqing Municipal People's Government.

The plan will serve as an important guide for Chongqing to promote the ecology, environment, and green development of the towns in the Three Gorges Reservoir area of northeast Chongqing, emphasizing the protection of the Yangtze River culture and realize the development of cultural and tourism integration.

Hu Wantai, Director of the Chongqing Municipal Planning and Natural Resources Bureau, introduced that the development plan's scope plan involves Wanzhou District, Zhongxian County, and Shizhu Tujia Autonomous County of Chongqing.

For example, Wanzhou District will focus on five aspects, involving cultural tourism, industry, town, ecology, and transportation to promote the project. It also plans to implement 14 district-level key projects within five years, with a total investment of about 2.2 billion yuan.

Hu continued, the origin of the name "Yangtze Landscapes of the Three Gorges Reservoir" comes from an important element -- Huanghua Island, where the Island is located at the Three Gorges center Reservoir Area of the Yangtze River. The core area of the Reservoir looks from the sky as if nature created a huge "heart" shaped bonsai with unique charm.

Within a range of nearly 1,000 square kilometers, rivers, bays, streams, islands, wetlands, grasslands, and other natural resources are in rich abundance. The Reservoir is enriched with strong culture and humanities, including historical sites and ancient towns like Shibaozhai, Huanghua Island, Duzhu Peninsula, Xituo Ancient Town, while the spiritual core of local culture, including salt, loyalty, and immigration, are also integrated into the deep root of Zhongxian County. This further shows the natural beauty of mountains and rivers and the beauty of urban and rural characteristics.

According to Hu, the development plan includes four major categories, including improving the comprehensive transportation system, protecting the inherited history and culture, strengthening ecological protection and restoration, and enhancing the tourism service system as well as more than 260 key projects.
