Connectivity Expedites Pace of Chengdu and Chongqing in Opening-up

Tianfu Road, a new road in Chongqing Liangjiang Collaborative Innovation Zone, is under construction, while in Tianfu New Area, a road named Liangjiang lies in Jinjiang River Ecological Zone. 

This reveals the friendship of the national new areas in Chengdu and Chongqing and their determination to achieve high-quality development through deep communication and cooperation.

Cooperation in transportation infrastructure

A two-way 6-lane road called Shuangchang Avenue is situated in the adjacent area of West Chongqing and South Sichuan. Some sections of the 35-kilometer-long avenue have been built and opened to traffic with no toll. This serves as one of the major cooperation projects launched by the Rongchang District of Chongqing and Longchang City of Sichuan in 2021.

"Shuangchang Avenue leads west to Tianfu Avenue of Chengdu via a highway and east to the center of downtown Chongqing," said Chang Xiaoyong, member of the Standing Committee of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Rongchang District Committee and executive deputy district mayor. "It will help reduce logistics costs of the two places and form an industrial belt." 

On December 24, 2020, the single-trip time of the Chengdu-Chongqing High-Speed Railway was shortened from 90 minutes to 62 minutes, marking the official entry of Chongqing and Chengdu into a "one-hour era" of high-speed railways.

After the upgrading, the high-speed railway has realized the operation mode like buses, featuring frequent departures with short intervals. It sees one train every 20 minutes per day, totaling 87.5 pairs.

The construction of the Chengdu-Dazhou-Wanzhou High-Speed Railway has started, and that of Chongqing-Kunming High-Speed Railway is expediting.

Among the 13 inter-provincial expressways between Sichuan and Chongqing, six are under construction. Chengdu Tianfu International Airport has been basically completed while Chongqing Jiangbei International Airport is expanding.

In the upper reaches of the Yangtze River, waterway improvement and cascade canalization are advancing smoothly. In addition, the building of the Shuangjiang River navigation power junction of Fujiang River has started, and the construction of such projects Jialing River Lize Shipping Hub is also speeding up.

Port alliance for enhancing the influence

As the role of hubs is intensified, the influence is enhanced.

Liangjiang New Area is actively cooperating with ports in Sichuan to help the national logistics hub of Guoyuan Port continuously expand its routes, develop new routes between Sichuan and Chongqing and add water transit routes for containers transported from Guang'an and Guangyuan to Guoyuan Port.

Chongqing Port Logistics Group Co., Ltd. and Sichuan Port and Shipping Investment Group Co., Ltd. have jointly established a logistics company to cooperate in deepening port operation, multi-modal transport, whole-process logistics, etc.

Besides, Guoyuan Port has cooperated with Yibin Port, Luzhou Port, and feeder vessel companies to operate water transit public feeders for containers, which have achieved normal and stable operation every day.

Additionally, Liangjiang New Area has successfully operated trains via rail-water multi-modal transport for containers from Guoyuan Port to Chengdu, Xinjin, Meishan, Xichang, and other places.

In Linshui County, a dry port is set up, and a linkage mechanism between Linshui Port and Guoyuan Port national logistics hub is established to explore direct transport, mutual recognition of customs clearance information, and policy sharing.

Furthermore, Chongqing Bonded Port Area is advancing the inauguration of the "processing trade industry expansion (supporting) zone" at the relevant park in Guang'an, Sichuan. It is also striving to improve the intelligent terminal industry cluster, set up a branch of the Belt and Road Commodity Exhibition and Trading Center in Dazhou, and broaden the trading chain for bonded imports.

At present, Liangjiang New Area focuses on Guoyuan Port and takes major ports like Yibin Port and Luzhou Port as nodes to join hands with its partners to build rail-water and water-water multi-modal transport channels and establish a port alliance in the upper reaches of the Yangtze River.
