Chongqing- In 2022, Chengdu and Chongqing will open a new batch of inter-provincial intercity buses, intra-city buses, and alley buses, starting a batch of smart high-speed construction, said Xu Ren'an, Secretary of the Party Committee and Director of the Chongqing Municipal Transportation Bureau at a press conference on January 17.

Comprehensive three-dimensional transportation network

"Building the Chengdu-Chongqing economic circle and promoting regional connectivity is the primary task, where transportation should take the lead and provide support," said Xu.

According to Xu, Chengdu and Chongqing will speed up the construction of a comprehensive three-dimensional transportation network that connects various transportation modes and strive to realize the integration of infrastructure, transportation services, and governance systems.

Four "one-hour traffic circles"

"Accelerating the construction of four "one-hour traffic circles" in the Chengdu-Chongqing economic circle will still be one of our keys," said Xu. The four "one-hour traffic circles" are designed respectively for megacities in Chengdu and Chongqing, and neighboring cities of the metropolitan areas. 

A world-class airport cluster

In addition, Chengdu and Chongqing will build an international aviation gateway hub by creating a world-class airport cluster that radiates around the world.

"This year, we will speed up the construction of Chongqing Jiangbei International Airport's T3B terminal and the fourth runway, accelerate the preparatory work for the new airport, and strive to start the construction of a comprehensive transportation hub for Chongqing's new airport," said Xu.

Other plans involve actively improving the layout of regional and general airports, expanding airport functions, and enhancing service levels.

High-speed railways

This year, the Zhengzhou-Wanzhou high-speed railway will be opened to traffic, and the construction of the Chongqing-Xi'an high-speed railway and Chongqing-Yichang high-speed railway will be started. Other goals involve achieving the operating mileage of high-speed rail and the mileage under construction exceeding 1,000 kilometers, and Chongqing to reach Beijing in six hours.

Dazu Rock Carving Station

Over the past two years, Dazu district and Sichuan province have signed more than 150 cooperation agreements and made practical progress.

For instance, this involves starting off the construction of the Chengdu–Chongqing Central line high-speed railway last September, a 292-kilometer long high-speed rail line that connects Chengdu and Chongqing, with a maximum speed of 350 km/h, heading via Lezhi, Anyue, and Dazu. 

"The Dazu Rock Carvings are the only world cultural heritage in Chongqing," said Chen Yiqing, Deputy to the Chongqing Municipal People's Congress and Secretary of the Dazu District Party committee. "Based on the Dazu Rock Carving Station of the Chengdu–Chongqing Central line high-speed railway, we will build a 'future city cover' that integrates the station and the city with production, city, landscape, and culture."

Chen believes that allowing the Dazu Rock Carvings to become culturally world-renowned not only requires it to be beautiful in terms of its profound cultural heritage but also requires its beautiful scenery and prevailing custom, so that Dazu will become a place with appealing appearance, value, feature, quality, and characteristics.

Next, Dazu will build the Dazu Rock Carvings Cultural Park, explore the connotative value of Dazu Rock Carvings, push the Dazu Rock Carving Research Institute into a world-renowned research institute, tell interesting stories of Dazu through international publicity and marketing, and link Chengdu, Leshan, Meishan, Ziyang and other cities in Sichuan to jointly build a world-class leisure tourism destination.

Chengdu-Chongqing Comprehensive Science Center

"With innovation as the mainline, we will deeply promote the construction of the Chengdu-Chongqing economic circle," said Zuo Yongxiang, Deputy to the Chongqing Municipal People's Congress, Director of the Chongqing High-tech Zone Management Committee, and Director of the Western (Chongqing) Science City Management Committee.

As Chongqing's main platform for scientific and technological innovation and an important carrier for the construction of a nationally influential scientific and technological innovation center, the Western (Chongqing) Science City signed a strategic agreement with the Western (Chengdu) Science City last year, where they formulated an action plan for "dual-regional linkage" with the Chengdu High-tech Zone.

Both places have jointly built a Chengdu-Chongqing Comprehensive Science Center, which serves as a key move and a core task of Chengdu and Chongqing to speed up scientific construction and technological innovation center with national influence.

By focusing on scientific and technological innovation, industrial development, urban construction, optimizing the spatial layout, and strengthening functional support, the Western (Chongqing) Science City will be guided by the Chengdu-Chongqing Comprehensive Science Center to build a high-level "five innovation supports," including University Town, Research Port, Science Valley, Life Island, and Science and Innovation Street.     

Specifically, the Science Valley will focus on green and low-carbon, smart technology, and other fields, building about 1.4 million square meters of office buildings and creating a gathering place for cutting-edge technology, further reinforcing the goal of "promoting green manufacturing and green construction in an all-around way" from Chongqing Government Work Report Details Plans for Urban Development in 2022.
