Chongqing- The development of the Chengdu-Chongqing economic circle has the advantage of being promoted through the overall plan devised by the Chinese government, and has commenced from a relatively high standpoint for high-quality development, said Pu Yongjian, a professor at the School of Economics and Business Administration at Chongqing University.

 

Sichuan, Chongqing reaching a consensus

This year marks the first year for implementing the 14th Five-Year Plan and the year when the Planning Outline for the Construction of the Chengdu-Chongqing Economic Circle is fully implemented. 

At the third meeting of the Chongqing and Sichuan Party and Government Joint Conference to Promote the Construction of the Chengdu-Chongqing economic circle held in May, the main leaders between the two regions believed that the construction of the Chengdu-Chongqing economic circle is conducive.

Leaders from both sides think this will result in creating a new engine for regional development for the comprehensive construction of a modern socialist country, a new model for regional development for the complete and accurate implementation of development concepts, and a new pivot for regional development for the smooth domestic and international dual cycle.

Sichuan and Chongqing have reached a consensus to promote the construction of the Chengdu-Chongqing economic circle, with a target of producing and achieving more results.

Getting to the forefront of China

Pu believes that Chengdu is full of formidable scientific and technological talents, universities, and research institutions. Chongqing is also planning and constructing the Western (Chongqing) Science City with a high starting point and standard.

If the two sides can strengthen academic exchanges and learn from each other's advanced experience, they can quickly get to the forefront of China.

"The construction of the Western (Chongqing) Science City is related to the future of China, and its strategic transformation provides high-quality development to industrial upgrading," said Pu. "As a national scientific and technological innovation center, the Western (Chongqing) Science City provides a steady stream of original scientific and technological achievements."

Cooperation in the automobile manufacturing industry

"Five years or even ten years from now, I think the Chengdu-Chongqing economic circle will surpass the southeast coastal area in China in terms of the mid-end development of the industry," said Pu.

Pu thinks Chengdu and Chongqing can complement each other's advantages in many aspects, and the first would be the automobile manufacturing industry.

"Chongqing serves as the largest automobile manufacturing base in China," said Pu. "The problem now facing is to improve its industrial standard, from the low-end products in the past to the middle- and high-end products, and this requires technical services."

"Chongqing is planning to use smart manufacturing and big data to improve the automobile manufacturing industry, while Chengdu is also strong in the electronics industry," said Pu. "Therefore, if the two parties cooperate and upgrade the automobile industry together, there is a lot of room for cooperation."
