Chongqing- As a key hub of Southwestern China's Chongqing Municipality, the Chongqing East Railway Station is the intersection of the four main corridors planned by the national high-speed railway. 

On May 17, Chongqing City Integrated Transportation Hub announced that the Chongqing East Railway Station would implement the transit-oriented development (TOD) concept to create a modern transport hub with the station-city integration, providing strong support for the coordinated development and the Chengdu-Chongqing economic circle.

Radiate in all directions

The planned land area of the project is 3.47 square kilometers, with a total investment of 52.8 billion yuan (about 7.82 billion U.S. dollars). Among them, the Chongqing East Railway Station has a construction area of 1.22 million square meters, and the designed long-term passenger volume is 55 million.

"Chongqing East Railway Station is the intersection of the four main channels planned by the state for high-speed railway. In the future, more urban rail transit lines will be accessible here, which will play a pivotal role in the distribution of passenger flow in the central urban area and the external radiation of urban functions," said a source. 

The multi-directional transportation network of the Chongqing East Railway Station area will become a solid support for Chongqing to build into a mighty transportation city, creating an international comprehensive transportation hub and promoting its high-quality development.

Integration of hub and city functions

At present, the Chongqing East Railway Station area is promoting the construction of "station-city integration." It's said that the station area focuses on ecology, TOD development, culture, resilience, and smart technology to carry out the special urban design in planning. 

The station-city integration will be presented in multiple dimensions, said an official. Firstly, it will form a multi-dimensional integration space under the ground, on the ground, and above the ground. Secondly, it will promote the overall development of the Chongqing East Railway Station area and become a new growth pole of the urban economy with a collection of commerce, business, industry, leisure, culture, and tourism.

Ten-billion-level industrial chain

The primary proposition in construction planning is to promote the integration of industry and city. Transforming the regional advantages into industrial advantages and building a ten-billion-level industrial chain in the Chongqing East Railway Station area has become a significant part of the development plan. 

"We carefully sorted out from the aspects of transportation, ecology, industry, talents, and policies to enable industrial investment," said an official. He pointed out that the Chongqing East Railway Station is not only the starting point and destination of the transportation hub but also the international communication hub of Chongqing. It will take opening up of international hub and leading green innovation as the core goal to form a comprehensive layout system in the industrial space.
