By RAN ZHENG|Jun 15,2022

Chongqing- The Zhengzhou-Chongqing high-speed railway will soon open to public traffic. There are four railway stations in the Chongqing section of the high-speed railway in southwestern China. Except for Wanzhou North Railway Station, an existing station, Yunyang Railway Station, Fengjie Railway Station, and Wushan Railway Station are newly built stations in the Three Gorges Reservoir Area of Chongqing. Each station's design combines modern railway station standards with the distinct culture of the Yangtze River Three Gorges.

The Zhengzhou-Chongqing high-speed railway is an essential part of the Yangtze River corridor and Hohhot-Nanning corridor in China's "eight vertical and eight horizontal" high-speed railway network. The railway connecting Zhengzhou of Henan province and Southwest China's Chongqing municipality is 1,063 kilometers long, with speeds from 250 km per hour to 350 km/h. It consists of the Zhengzhou-Wanzhou section and Wanzhou-Chongqing section. The Zhengzhou-Wanzhou section is 818 km long with a designed speed of 350 km/h, and the Wanzhou-Chongqing section is 245 km long with a designed speed of 250 km/h.

"The Three Gorges has beautiful scenery. These three stations are located along the Yangtze River. The design scheme fully integrates the station's function and the local picture," said Zhang Dongsheng, head of the Zhengzhou-Chongqing high-speed railway station department of China Railway Eighth Bureau Group Co., Ltd. The three newly built stations are located in the Three Gorges Reservoir area's hinterland in Chongqing, each with a construction area of 12,000 square meters.

"Fengjie Railway Station is located west of the Western New Town, Zhuyi Town, Fengjie County, Chongqing City. The station is designed with two platforms and six lines. The planned peak passenger volume can meet 1,000 passengers per hour," according to Su Hongfei, deputy manager of the Zhengzhou-Chongqing high-speed railway station department of China Railway Eighth Bureau Co., Ltd. The canopy area of the station is about 10,600 square meters. The highlight of this station is that the construction team has used fair-faced concrete technology. It shows the most advanced inner texture beauty in the most simple language of the building, without any decoration and carving. It perfectly retains the natural color and texture of the building itself.

In the waiting hall, walls on the suspended ceiling simulate mountains' shapes. Passengers as if amid mountains and driving a boat on the Qingjiang River. Both sides of the station building look like mountain peaks facing Kuimen, and the lines in the middle symbolize the phoenix flying out of Kuimen. The building looks like an open book, which is in line with the reputation of a "Poetry City" in Fengjie County.

The appearance design of Yunyang Railway Station draws on the famous local landscape, ladders, and the cultural tradition of farming. The whole structure is constructed of white aluminum plates and glass, giving it a modern, intimate aesthetic.

At the same time, the pane elements of Zhang Fei Temple are integrated into the ceiling plan of the waiting hall. The pane is used for separation, which looks like a ladder rising step by step, symbolizing the city spirit of the Yunyang people, who always climb to the peak.

At Wushan Railway Station, passengers enter and exit the station employing down-in and down-out. The theme wall of the waiting hall uses a combination of layered decorative techniques and linear light sources, supplemented by the grille shape, to present the mysterious beauty of Wushan's mountains, water, clouds, and rain.

Central Henan province, the Chengdu-Chongqing economic circle, and the Yangtze River Economic Belt will be more closely connected once the whole line is opened. The line is rich in tourism resources and has low demand for freight trains, so it is very suitable for a high-speed railway passenger line.
