The 13th Hungarian Cultural Festival in Western China - Spring of Budapest Opens in Chongqing

Chongqing- On June 14, the 13th Hungarian Cultural Festival in Western China – Spring of Budapest and Hungarian Contemporary Art Exhibition opened at Bishan Art Museum. Dan Yanzheng, deputy mayor of Chongqing, Kadar Gergely, Hungarian Consul General in Chongqing, and consular officials from Cambodia, the Philippines, Myanmar, the Netherlands, Canada, Japan, and other countries attended the event.

A total of 100 artworks of different styles by seven Hungarian contemporary artists were exhibited. The exhibition will be displayed online and offline at the same time. The offline exhibition will be divided into two exhibition halls, the Chongqing ASEAN Cooperation Center and the Bishan Art Museum. The exhibition will last until June 17 and will be open to the public free of charge.

Since 2016, the Hungarian Consulate General in Chongqing has held two Hungarian cultural festivals every year: Spring of Budapest and Autumn of Budapest. The activities are rich in content, including wine tasting, photography exhibition, piano concert, movie night, painting exhibition, folk music, and dance performances. They bring Hungarian art, music, film, sports, and other cultural and sports projects to Chongqing citizens and have become a well-known brand in Chongqing’s international cultural exchange activities.

Gergely Kadar, Hungarian Consul General in Chongqing, said that the Hungarian Contemporary Art Exhibition gathers the core of Hungarian contemporary artworks, such as abstract art and realism, and other genres and styles. It is hoped that by comprehensively displaying the modern artistic landscapes of Hungary, they will share a visual feast with the citizens of Chongqing and enhance everyone’s understanding of contemporary Hungarian art.

Qin Wenmin, Secretary of Communist Party of China Bishan District Committee, addressed that Bishan has a profound historical and cultural heritage and prosperous cultural and artistic undertakings. It is hoped that through the carrier of the Hungarian Cultural Festival in Western China, a sincere invitation will be sent to enterprises and talents from China and all over the world, and everyone will be warmly welcome to invest in Bishan. Bishan will deepen pragmatic cooperation with consular institutions of various countries, speed up the construction of an international exchange platform, and make every effort to ensure the implementation of cultural, economic, and trade exchange projects.

After the opening ceremony, the guests visited the Chongqing ASEAN Cooperation Center in Bishan to learn about the industrial development of the center and the construction of the Sino-Singapore (Chongqing) Science and Technology City.
