Chongqing- Have you ever seen a smart safety helmet that can locate, communicate and even emit a laser? The front of the helmet has a protruding camera and a hole for releasing a laser. Developed by China Communications Construction Company Limited (CCCC), this product will be put into operation soon, according to an engineering department of Southwest China's Chongqing Rail Transit (CRT) Line 18 north extension. 

With the Beidou Global Positioning System (GPS), the intelligent safety helmet can locate workers accurately in real-time, enabling the project manager to view the location of each employee through tablet computers and other intelligent terminals.

The manager can handle an accident on the construction site by commanding his assistants to address the problem. 

"Please wear your safety helmet before entering the construction site," reminds the helmet. Aside from lighting, the helmet can make video calls and send voice messages.

Detecting that people are not wearing helmets, the smart camera in the admission channel will take the initiative to identify and voice an alert. Both workers' safety and management efficiency can be improved by such equipment.

Such a smart safety helmet illustrates efforts to build smart construction sites by Internet plus, where China unveiled an Internet Plus action plan to integrate the Internet with traditional industries and fuel economic growth. The project uses information technologies to create a safe and smart construction site with a smart monitoring center and a real-name database.

As the video data from the construction site has been transmitted to other sectors through the Internet in real time, the manager can watch the scene through applications on computers or mobile phones, significantly improving safety supervision efficiency.

The information technology of smart construction sites has a wide array of types, like big data, the Internet of Things (IoT), Artificial Intelligence (AI), and three-dimensional collaboration.

Thanks to them, the site can visualize and manage engineering construction intelligently, improving the comprehensive management level of the project in all aspects, such as quality and safety.

As one of Chongqing Rail Transit's major lines, the line 18 north extension project has been proceeding smoothly since its construction began in March 2021. A total of eight underground stations have been built along the 10.61-kilometer line in Chongqing.
