Chongqing - Social groups and residents in Chongqing have been inspired to chase their dream life after they watched the live broadcast of the 20th National Congress of the Communist Party of China. "Every word speaks to the hearts of the common people," said one Chongqing citizen.

The congress opened at the Great Hall of the People in Beijing last Sunday morning and was due to conclude on Oct 22. On behalf of the 19th CPC Central Committee, President Xi Jinping delivered a report at the opening session.

In the Wang Family's yard in Bailin Village, Chengjiang Town, Beibei District, local villagers, left-behind elders, and social workers watched the opening ceremony together. Xi Jinping called for promoting basic elderly care services for all elderly. Yu Guifu, the first secretary of Bailin Village, said that in addition to the elderly social workers providing public welfare services, party members are also obliged to take care of the left-behind elderly. Next, the village will actively innovate services to enhance the sense of gain, happiness, and security of the elderly and strive to let the rural left-behind elderly have a happy old life.

Serving people on the front line

Just after 9:00 a.m. on Oct 16, residents, party members, and community staff of the Renhejie Community in Yuzhong District came early to the former site of the Chongqing Sino-French School. They sat together to watch the live broadcast of the 20th National Congress of the Communist Party of China opening ceremony.

The former site of Chongqing Sino-French School is the birthplace of the earliest Communist Party of China in Chongqing.

Yuan Quanmao, a "post-95" young party member and commentator of the former site of the Sino-French School, recorded Xi's report in his notebook while watching the live broadcast. "Xi Jinping mentioned in the report that we must pass on the traditions of revolution. As a cultural relic commentator, I will give full play to my professional expertise and dig deep into the history of cultural relics. We must tell the stories of the Party, revolution, and heroes well and pass on the red story to the world," said Yuan.

Ma Shanxiang, a "role model of the times" by the Publicity Department of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China in 2014, has served as a mediator in a neighborhood office for nearly half his life.

On Oct 16, he watched the live broadcast of the opening ceremony in Jiangbei District while taking several pages of notes.

"This country is its people; the people are the country." Ma highlighted these words.

"Every grassroots cadre is a needle, and so am I," said Ma. He will continue to take root in the front line and regard serving the people as a lifelong career.

Proud to be part of this

At the construction site of Lixue Road Station, Phase II of Rail Transit Line 15, builders walked into the conference room of the project department one after another, waiting to watch the live broadcast.

"The great achievements of the new era have come from the collective dedication and hard work of our Party and our people. "When Xi Jinping said this, the workers burst into warm applause, and everyone's faces were beaming with proud smiles.

Rail Transit Line 15 from Zengjia to Liangjiang Film and Television City is a crucial project of Chongqing rail transit construction. It is also the first urban rail express line in the central city. More than 100 people on site will speed up the building to ensure that the projects are progressing as scheduled.

“As a Party member, I am encouraged by the opening of the 20th CPC National Congress. He has shown the world what China has achieved in cross-country skiing at the Beijing Winter Olympics and various world competitions.

Wearing tracksuits decorated with the national flag and the word “Chongqing,” members of the Chongqing cross-country skiing team gathered with their notebooks after the morning exercise. Formed in May this year, the team is the first professional winter sports team in Chongqing. The 14th National Winter Games is around the corner, so the training corps carry out their preparatory work in order. Not only will players strengthen both basic and specialized physical fitness, but they tend to combine theoretical learning with technical training in routines.

A greener city promises a high-quality life

On Oct 16, residents worked out, and children played in the Jiangshan Park in the Shapingba District amusement park. Many residents in the park sat together and watched the opening ceremony on their mobile phones while discussing the changes around them.

"Xi Jinping highlighted in his report to improve living standards and people's lives, and I feel this firsthand!" said Zhou Yili, a resident of Ciqikou Street who was exercising in Jiangshan Park.

Jiangshan Park is located between Gele Mountain and Ciqikou ancient town, close to the steel factory. Before it was a wasteland, overgrown with weeds, and residents were very dissatisfied.

Shapingba District has upgraded Jiangshan Park under the "People's City Demonstration Zone" construction requirements and restored its ecological adjustment function this year.

"After renovation, I often came to exercise and taught other residents to use fitness equipment correctly. We plan to plant trees in the park next year," said Bao Ganhua, a social volunteer. "The government has created better living conditions, and as part of the city, we must build and care for the city together," he added.
