Chongqing- China's first new energy vehicle (NEV) detection station was officially put into service in Southwest China's Chongqing Municipality on December 8. Its NEV industry has entered a new accelerated development stage, with production and sales ranking first worldwide for seven consecutive years. 

The NEV detection station, located in Yubei District, combined online and offline for NEV's safety performance test and was created by Chongqing Municipal Public Security Bureau and the China Automotive Engineering Research Institute.

Compared with traditional ones, the detection station is equipped with charging, electric safety, and vehicle safety detection, specifically for NEVs. 

"Relying on the NEV big data platform, the online system can perform real-time monitoring, analysis, and warning of NEV's battery, motor, and electric control condition," said a related person in charge of the station. "These data will be directly sent to the detection station."

He added that traditional detection involves speed detection, brake detection, light detection, wheel weight detection, sideslip detection, and suspension device detection, Additionally, the offline detection station focuses on accurately detecting abnormal parameters and sends the NEV with problems to the 4S-Authorized car dealership or maintenance station.

Bai Qingping, responsible for the technical support of the station, said that the NEV big data platform could find the safety risks of battery, motor, and electric control to avoid the car going out of control, spontaneous battery combustion, and other dangers.

During the trial operation, the station screened over 240,000 Chongqing NEVs and detected 106 vehicles with high risks and hidden dangers. The accumulated practice and test data will support the Ministry of Public Security in releasing national detection standards for NEVs.

Optimistic trends in policies and data make Chongqing confident in developing NEV detection stations. By the end of June 2022, China's NEV ownership had reached 10.01 million units, while Chongqing's NEV ownership had exceeded 240,000, showing a continuous growth trend, according to the data released by the Ministry of Public Security.

On September 8, the Chongqing Municipal People's Government announced new plans to build a world-class industrial cluster for intelligent connected vehicles (ICVs) and NEV. Chongqing's ICV and NEV output will account for over 10% of China's production in three years.
