By VIVIAN YAN|Dec 16,2022

Chongqing- With the theme of "Cooperate on the Rule of Law and Promote the Joint Construction of High-quality Belt and Road Development," the 4th China-ASEAN Legal Cooperation Forum will be held in Chongqing tomorrow from 9 a.m.

The rapid economic and trade cooperation development between China and ASEAN demands higher bilateral commercial legal collaboration. Given the inevitable commercial disputes, the dispute resolution mechanism has become an important component of the market-oriented, legalized, and international business environment.

The two books, Legal Practice Guide for Foreign Investment in Cambodia and Legal Practice Guide for Foreign Investment in Vietnam, jointly written by legal experts from China, Cambodia, and Vietnam, will be officially published at the meeting. It serves as the first series of legal books on introducing foreign investment in Cambodia and Vietnam.

The content covers legal systems such as investment access, land, labor employment, and investment dispute settlement, which enables Chinese investors to fully understand the investment environment and investment-related laws and policies in Cambodia and Vietnam.

"The publication of the two books will strengthen the legal risk prevention of Chinese enterprises' investment in Cambodia and Vietnam, guide enterprises to better invest in the two countries, and help improve the local legal and commercial environment," said Professor Zhang Xiaojun, Secretary-General of the China-ASEAN Legal Research Center (CALRC). "This is also an important achievement of the CALRC in deepening cooperation and exchanges with ASEAN countries."

Strengthening bilateral legal cooperation between China and Laos, actively expanding the field of legal cooperation, and serving the construction of the China-Laos community with a shared future, the China-Laos Legal Research and Consultation Center will be officially unveiled at the meeting as well.

In addition, the list of Typical Cases of Legal Services in the Construction of the China-ASEAN Free Trade Area will be released at the meeting. Key seminars will include Sharing of the Achievements and Experience in the Area of Legal Cooperation between China and ASEAN, Research on the Economic and Trade Rules of Free Trade Agreements, such as RCEP, and Legal Issues Involved in the Construction of New International Land-Sea Trade Corridor, etc.

The forum is hosted by the Southwest University of Political Science and Law and Chongqing International Exchange Association and organized by the School of International Law of Southwest University of Political Science and Law, CALRC, and the School of Area and International Studies of Southwest University of Political Science and Law.

Nearly 100 experts and scholars from Peking University, Tsinghua University, and well-known law schools in Cambodia, Thailand, Myanmar, and other countries will attend the forum using online video and offline venues.

The CALRC was established in 2010. It aims to focus on research on the rule of law in the China-ASEAN region, an ASEAN legal database, and the training of legal talents for ASEAN affairs through integrating Chinese and ASEAN laws and legal resources.
