Chongqing - Jorah Kai Wood, Canadian author and teacher living in China's Chongqing, recently made visits to cultural heritage sites in Chongqing and experienced repairing the Thousand-Hand Bodhisattva of the Dazu Rock Carvings and learning the traditional folk music of Jielong Chuida.
He was impressed by China's achievements in passing down and preserving its cultural heritage.
"Gazing upon the Dazu Rock Carvings, I witnessed the relentless efforts of those who guard our cultural relics. These stalwart sentinels strive to breathe fresh 'life' into what one could call a species of ancient stone effigies etched into cliff walls eons ago," said Kai. "In the town of Jielong, people meld their intangible cultural inheritance, the sonorous Jielong Chuida, into the fabric of daily existence, effectively setting the heavy pulse of culture to a vibrant, living rhythm. This Chinese modernization, a harmonious blend of material prosperity and spiritual advancement, is a phenomenon to behold. And China's relentless endeavors to safeguard and perpetuate its cultural heritage leaves me nothing short of astounded."
