Hui People’s Music of History | Western China’s Melody Documentary EP5

Chongqing – In the summer of 2025, a collaborative production team from the Western China International Communication Organization and Danish music producer Rasmus Hedegaard ventured across nine provinces and regions in Western China, immersing themselves in the daily lives of ten ethnic groups to create the documentary series Western China's Melody. By infusing the soul of ancient folk songs with the pulse of modern electronic beats, the series brings to life a musical journey that allows the world to hear the most authentic and heartfelt heartbeat of Western China.

Beneath the Helan Mountains, the ancient mouth harp sounds faint yet resilient. Hedegaard journeys to Yinchuan, discovering the lingering emotions hidden within its gentle vibrations. As dynasties rise and fall, this 4,000-year-old reed instrument transforms historical memories into an enduring pulse, telling the timeless story of civilization.
