WTE2019: Get to Know Golden Ideas Winners for Chongqing Cultural Tourism

Chongqing- The awarding ceremony of the International Golden Idea Competition on Culture and Tourism Integrated Development of Chongqing and the Power of Culture Forum took place in Southwest China’s Chongqing Municipality, June 22, 2019.

Contributors of a total of 37 golden ideas won prizes, including two first-prize winners, two second-prize winners and three third-prize winners,  after more than five months’ collection, initial review, final review, and notification. On January 16, Chongqing launched the golden ideas collecting ideas on January 16 this year. According to the competition organizing committee, 693 valid golden ideas in total were collected from tourists, citizens, scholars, experts, planning institutions and market entities in China, America, Australia, Singapore, Poland, and other countries and regions.

The competition serves as an opportunity to carry out the global promotion of Chongqing’s urban image, tourism, and cultural resources. It aims to attract more tourists and market entities.

Liu Xiaonian, Deputy Secretary and Deputy Director of the Chongqing Municipal Commission of Culture and Tourism Development, delivered a speech at the forum, said, "We believe that these high-quality new ideas and ground-breaking opinions and suggestions will provide new ways for the development of Chongqing's cultural tourism."

Li Mingde, Research Fellow and Academic Adviser of Tourism Research Center, Chinese Academy of Social Sciences, addressed at the awarding ceremony on the topic of cultural tourism and city development. He said, “Golden ideas as driving force and vitality are important for cultural tourism development.”

“Chongqing is a city with red genes. Chongqing has the deepest cultural tourism potential and the most abundant tourism resources,” Yu Hui, a researcher from the Palace Museum, said and added, “Apart from cultural tourism, Chongqing can also develop themed-tourism, for example, landscape, cultural relics, and red tourism."

Prize-winner representatives also shared and illustrated their ideas on site.

Golden ideas at a glance

These golden ideas involved five aspects related to the Three Gorges, the Mountainous City, the Local Culture, the Hot Springs and the Countryside, ways to bring cultural resources back to life and let marketing and publicity go global.

To build a Chongqing urban rail transit complex by integrating culture, tourism, entertainment, interaction, and transportation. 

To protect and reinvigorate the ancient city wall in Chongqing by building the city wall ruins park and museum and etc.

To create new landmarks for urban tourism such as Danzishi square sculpture, rainbow ladder, Nanbin Road tram, mountain sightseeing cable car, and three-story road.

To create routes themed War of Resistance for one-day, two-day, three-day tours and other cultural tours.
